I am not going to limit this to anything specific.
What’s something you love that deserves more attention from the public?
I’ll have more later, but here’s a couple:
The Badger, by Mike Baron. Incredibly fun comic that that doesn’t handle heroes in the usual way. I need to get the rest of the trades.
Galaxion. Obscure enough that it doesn’t have a TVTropes page (or didn’t five minutes ago before I started one), although it does have a wikipedia page, strangely enough. Interesting scifi webcomic, with great characters, great writing, and great art.
*Adventure Time. * It’s an outrageously original kid’s cartoon that’s been running on Cartoon Network for the last year and a half. It’s got a quirky art style, great voice acting (one of the main characters is John DiMaggio, aka Bender from Futurama), and amazing writing.
Here, check out Marceline the Vampire Queen singing a song where she accidentally reveals a little too much about her unrequited feelings toward Princess Bubblegum.
Peep Show is just about the funniest sitcom ever. It happens to be British so it wasn’t easy for Americans to see but now it’s on Hulu in full so I don’t know why people don’t just watch it!
It’s hard to explain why it’s so funny. It just is. Perhaps it’s the mix of awful and depressed people and hearing their awful and depressed inner thoughts.
People may have noticed that I read a LOT of webcomics. Here’s a few more that are underlooked:
Thistil Mistil Kistil I really wish this one had a consistent update schedule. Fun Norse mythology inspired, very evocative but simple art. Lovely characters.
Awesome Hospital It had a consistent schedule for a while, and now seems to be random. “When you’ve got a problem so rad that conventional science can’t help, you need to consult the specialists of Awesome Hospital.”
Sunset Grill I know a lot of people are turned off by Poser-generated art, but the author of this one works really hard to make the people look natural and emotive. Good scifi story about the poor side of town.
I, uh, I have more, but I don’t want to monopolize the thread.
Albert Collins. When I heard his songs Mastercharge, I thought it was hilarious, then I heard more. I fell in love with his guitar playing, and just thought his lyrics were great. He’s appreciated in some circles, just not the ones I’ve been involved in.
Why is that? If those things are so awesome, wouldn’t you prefer it for more people to appreciate their awesomeness?
For me, the biggie is box lacrosse – hands down, the best spectator sport ever devised. So good that my wife, who isn’t much into sports, will willingly go to games with me a 2-3 times a year. Anyone who claims to be a sports fan and disagrees should probably just go ahead and join their friends in Al Qaeda.
Depending where you are on the internet, them’s fightin’ words.
That being said, I seem to be hearing that while Anette (the new singer) wasn’t that great in Dark Passion Play, the new album showcases her talent much better and she’s become better integrated into the group. I like the track you linked.
I did like Tarja, though (er, her voice. I’ve not heard good things about her personality). I wish voices like hers were more common in mainstream music, because then I can sing along without sounding like an idiot (as my voice is more appropriate for showtunes than pop music). One of my favorites of hers.
