Halava. I was introduced to this when I worked at a Kosher deli. The marble stuff is my favorite.
I don’t even know what buttermilk is. (yes, yes, i’m ignorant and deprived.)
And since it’s turned into a food board, I’m the only person I know who eats huge chunks of Parmesan cheese the same way you would a chocolate bar.
Also, I have toast with garlic butter on it. People go ‘ergh’, even when they realise it’s almost exactly the same as the garlic bread they get with their pizza.
On that note, I’m the only person I know who doesn’t like pizza. Of any kind.
I don’t really like pizza, unless it has no sauce and only topped with cheese. I dip it in ranch.
I really liked the remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau with Marlin Brando and Val Kilmer. I watched it in the theater many, many times.
but•ter•milk
1 : the liquid left after butter has been churned from milk or cream
2 : cultured milk made by the addition of suitable bacteria to sweet milk
I drank skim milk growing up, so that’s what I’m used to. Everyone says skim milk is terrible and has no flavor, but anything other than skim tastes too creamy. I’ll stomach 1 or 2%, but anything higher and it may as well be liquid lard. Blech.
Cabin Boy- Love it.
“Purple lightning. That’s a good sign.”
“. . . She’ll clean my pipes, my buddies too. I don’t need church to find my way. Cause I’ve found heaven with my Essie May.”
Halvah- I love it. Since the Superfresh (huge with huge kosher section and open til 2 am weekdays) closed, I haven’t been able to find any. Now I have to shop at a smaller, (with a Kosher section I could fit in my bathroom), crappier (why does this tahini taste odd? I only bought it yesterday. Ah, the can explains it expired three years ago. How stupid of me to assume the staff would remove expired products from the shelves.) and no halvah. I was visiting friends in University City. UC has a high Moslem population. It’s easy to find most middle-eastern foods. But I still couldn’t find any halvah. It’s driving me mad.
For those not familiar with it, halvah is a dessert made mostly out of a chalky paste of crushed sesame seeds. I once presented some to my friends, their reviews ranged from “Chalk, not chalky, chalk. This is what I imagine eating an actual piece of chalk would be like.” to “This tastes like dogfood mixed with sand.”
I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The movie.
Brussels sprouts - check. I love 'em. 'Specially swimming in oodles of melty butter.
Parmesan cheese eaten like a candy bar - check.
Does anyone besides me like anise candy?
Movies: Threesome, Desperado, Tim

Candy: Those Hacks sweets that taste really strong and are blackish-brown in colour. Technically, they’re cough drops, but they just taste so good. Of course, when I explain this to other people, they give me weird looks and decline, edging slowly away.
I also eat peanut candy by this brand which has a prawn or a lobster on the wrapper.
I can think of people who share my tastes in books or music, so…yeah. walks off, eating peanut candy
Well, apparently I’m the only person in the world who loves Saving Silverman.
I love liver and onions, though everyone I’ve eaten dinner with at restaurants when I’ve ordered it thought it was gross.
Movies: One From The Heart and Return To Oz.
(One From The Heart is being re-released to the theaters and on DVD. I’m thrilled because it could get a new audience.)
Music: Happy Rhodes (deserves to be up there with Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, maybe even Kate Bush.)
Books: “Mercedes Nights” and “My Father Immortal” by Michael D. Weaver (very good books, funny, sad, and interesting. Sadly, Weaver died a few years ago so we’ll never know how good he could have gotten.)
Foods: Peanut Butter and Nutella (people like one or the other, but both together? Sans crackers/bread, one spoon, straight from the jars. People think it’s weird. Or maybe they just think I’m weird.)
I like Last Action Hero and Dr. Phibes too, as well as the last two Matrix films (not as much as the first one though). I adore Moulin Rouge.
Necco Wafers and Jujubes. SOME one must like them because they’re still being sold…
I’m Beginning to believe I am the only person who LOVED In The Cut
.
Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person left who still watches wrestling. Does that count?
Peanut butter, orange marmalade, and spam sandwiches on rye bread.
I love Necco Wafers! I bought a bag of mini packages (10 wafers in each) for Halloween. I had them and Smarties (the sweetart Smarties, not the m&m Smarties) all ready, but got no Halloween visitors. I can’t let them go to waste, you understand.
(I like the white, pink and brown ones best. I hate the black ones. Licorice…ugh)
I haven’t seen In The Cut yet. It’s on my list.
