Things You Suspect But Could Never Prove

75% or more of celebrity marriages are shams.

When I read a news item, or a gossip item, anything that is put out there for public consumption…we are seeing only the tip of the iceberg.
Joe Blow and Suzie Que are splitting up due to irreconcilable differences? Sounds like he prefers the t.p. going over and she wants it going under on the holder. Hah! The real story would make the readers’ hair stand on end, but we’ll never know…Politician stepping down to spend more time with his family? Yeah, he wants happy daily mealtimes and weekend picnics with the whole gang? Or …what else, hmm?

Yep. My Daddy learned how to play the guitar from a book. Ordered a guitar from the Sears catalog and the book came with it.

One can also learn to play the harmonica from a book.

I dunno about the first two but I like Champagne, it’s not worth the expense though.

That a significant portion of the audience for up-and-coming bands only like them because they’re hip, their music is immaterial.

It actually IS Higgs turtles all the way down.

That all (well most) of my phillips head screw drivers magically turn into flatheads when I need a phillips and vice a versa. We have DOZENS both types of screw drivers, but damned if I usually don’t have to go through a bunch of em every time to find the type I need at that moment. The experience just doesnt seem to jib with what the numbers would suggest.

I honestly believe that about all marriages or maybe even a higher percentage. They are real in the sense that they are legal and serve some purpose to those involved but it isn’t in the way that they are presented to family, friends, and the general public.

just what a robot would say

I agree with this but think it extends to most matters of “taste.”

Now for mine:
No one really likes tater tots as much as they say they do - it’s a hipster affectation. At best they’re okay. The french fry’s greasier cousin.

Oh, like we’re going to believe YOU!

I don’t think the upper end of our civilization, the Presidents and University chancellors and CEOs of huge multinational corporations et al, are much smarter or more qualified to be making decisions affecting thousands or millions of people than us regular schlubs. I think they’re winging it and live in fear that everyone will find out. I think that’s pretty much the way it’s always been.

ETA: Darn you whole bean and double darn my slow typing.

It’s only the expensive stuff that’s worth drinking. Unfortunately, I love it and drink it often.

Back to the OP: I suspect most (or at least many) jurors violate their instruction not to go to the internet during trial and look things up.

That a lot of the mind-bogglingly stupid stuff the goverment does, especially as regards to foreign policy, is justified (or at least, not flat-out dumb) by classified information. Us civilians only know half the story.

You can absolutely learn to play an instrument from a book if you play other instruments, for sure.

Also, I like champagne. I don’t care for caviar, though.

Corporations/big business/wall street, whatever you want to call it, is WAY, WAY, WAY more evil than any of us suspect. That they outright own our politicians and manipulate our economy for profit and do not, even a whit, give a shit about any suffering they cause.

I like caviar and champagne. Wouldn’t go near a steak tartare for love or money.

Oh, and I am a robot.

I believe strongly that Sarah Palin is an actress. She’s playing a role with direction being given to her by GOP leadership and is being well-paid for her efforts in a fashion not transparent to the public – or at least not yet. (The book and Fox News contracts were a part of that.) One day we’ll find out that it’s truly all an act.

OJ Simpson is completely innocent. During his football days he refused to give an autograph to an evil genius who went on to repeatedly try setting OJ up for various crimes.

I like all of these. Sometimes together.

I suspect that Bush II told Cheney “I won, now I don’t want to have to work for the next four to eight years, you run the country and I’ll just sign stuff.”

-All grades of gasoline are the same. Same with many food products and many brands of tires and batteries. Clothes that go to Wal-Mart are made in the same factories as clothes to go to expensive stores.

-Cancers are over-diagnosed and over-treated, breasts, colons, and testicles being removed unnecessarily when there are undoubtedly cancerous tumors growing and going away on their own all the time in the human body. Just think what a diagnosis of breast cancer means in terms of revenue for mammography, MRIs, surgeons, cosmetic surgery, radiation therapy, drug companies etc. I think a healthy diet and strong body would do as much for cancer as the scapel and drugs.

-Drug companies invent diseases to make drugs for, and basically bribe doctors to prescribe these medications

-Corporations are more evil in some ways than you think and less evil in others. Same with politicians.

-Most people will do basically anything to get a sufficient quantity of sex or money

You’re either alone or with someone.

That’s what you want me to think!!!

I think there are other intelligent life in the universe and we have been visited by them.

The world’s probably a lot more scary and sinister than people realize. All the time, a great deal of people are narrowly missing disaster.

Glenn Beck is a consummate showman who doesn’t believe a word he’s saying. Inwardly, he’s laughing at all the idiots who take him so seriously.

Courage is more essential to accomplishment than intelligence.

Nobody in the US government actually gives a shit about gun control, abortion, or gay marriage one way or the other. These, and a few other hot-button issues, are simply a way to keep people angry and distracted from the .gov’s other plans.
