Things you wish the world would tire of.

I wish they had got tired of anthropomorphising boring objects like telephones, credit cards, spoons, lamps.

Imagine the scene at the Ad company… The execs and the idea-men are sat round a big table.

Exec “So how do we advertise this new room deodorizer”

idea-man “Well… Hear me out on this… We could do some CGI of the lamp and the fridge and a plug all talking about how nice the room is with mr-air freshener… They all have faces of course”

Cue a room full of execs throwing heavy objects at ideas man.

Or not as seems to have been the case.

Violence, greed and religion.

Let’s not let this thread get hijacked by that last one

I wish the world would tire of anthropomorphizing God.

Celebrity worship. I don’t give a flying fuck what anyone does in their own personal life, where they were spotted, who they’re dating, or what their opinions on, say, global warming are.

How about room [del]de[/del]odorizers themselves? I recently saw a scented candle that was labeled “Fresh Air.”

Oh let’s see… road rage, inconsideration, fingerbang coin purses and not recycling.

Ditto.

And more specifically, could the world please please please get over this obsession with people who are famous for no reason at all? What have Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Rumer Willis, and the entire cast of The Hills done besides sit in the VIP lounge of the latest Hollywood nightspot and star in a second-rate reality show (and/or internet “home videos”)? No, the fact that their resume says they’re a handbag designer or aspiring singer does NOT count as a reason.

And more importantly, why the hell do I even know these people’s names? AAAAUGH.

egoism and egotism

I wish people would get tired of shallow, sound-bite thinking. Especially in the media. Take the time to learn about the subject.

Well I actually meant fads, and specifically corporations or people who should know better.

Human nature will never tire of egotism, road rage (it will metamporphasise into air then vacume rage though), not recycling, celeb-worship etc.

But carry on.

“reality” TV.

I’m getting tired of blogs. Well-written news blogs I can appreciate. Personal blogs where you put yourself out there and a community of like-minded individuals become your pals are fine. So are personal blogs that people write in religiously and have their friends read.

But blogs for the sake of blogging are driving me nuts. My buddy set up a group blog for me and some of our mutual friends to write in. Basically, it’s the new “zine” - we try to write articles.

But some of my compatriots’ ideas of “articles” are poor. Just stupid opinion pieces. Actually, it’s primarily turned in to a place to post funny YouTube videos and comment on them (under the guise of an “article”). Whee! Or, links to online articles surrounded by very awkward opinion. One dude, who wrote terrible “articles” to begin with, decided he needed to switch to “podcasts” - MP3s of him speaking the same sort of crap he was writing.

It’s full of “tag clouds” and “social bookmark” links and “Rate this!” buttons and AdSense. Very little commenting or discussion. Very little new content, actually. I don’t post there much because I like to write with quality, and I just don’t have the time or the inclination to do so.

I’ve never been a fan of OpEd before, so perhaps that’s my problem with blogs. The “blogsphere” got really over-populated really quick. There’s tons of blogs out there that don’t go anywhere - seems like everything is just a re-hashing of everyone else’s topics. But all I read about the Internet anymore is blogs. Meh.

Well, people do tire of fads. That’s why they’re called fads. I don’t see too many hippies, discotechs, line dancers, mullets, or pet rocks any more.

Reality television is another one I wish death upon. Guess what? I don’t care who gets voted off the island. I don’t know these people and don’t want to know these people. It’s boring and it’s edited. And I believe in some instances scripted.

The prevalence of porn.

The sexualization of violence in the USA, where it’s ok to watch a child bludgeoned to death in a film, but the world will end if Janet Jackson’s nipple ring is seen on TV.

Religious wars–Israel and Palestine–knock it off, already. Learn to live with one another.

Bigotry and institutionalized racism. That said, get the damned chip off your shoulder–I’m not automatically biased against you because I’m white and you’re not.
Stupid TV shows–includes “reality” TV.

The wall to wall ads that are everywhere.

Extremism in all it’s forms.
Political, religious, social, behavioral.

Periods? Well, you won’t hear about it from me…

Spitting in the street, KFC chicken, Britney Spears, and “The customer is always right”. No particular order.

Woo. As in “Woo-woo-woo-woo!!!” in a loud shriek. All wooers must hang.

Talking on the cellphone loudly in line, or while driving.
