So today started out pretty good, we got out early and went to meet with a lawyer, the boy was awesome for the first 45 mins. Better than I had expected. We left there at 10 and I was waiting for a call from California Unemployment to interview me about my needs to qualify for unemployment. I had my phone with me everywhere I went this morning, always in my pocket, with the volume up. If you miss this call, you can be denied benefits.
They called at 11:44 this morning. at 11:43 this morning the boy had a P.O.U.S. (Poo of Unusual Size) and my hands were a little full to answer the phone. So I called them back and left messages, but haven’t heard from them. Now I am afraid that I won’t get the benefits. Grrrr.
Then we went to the grocery store, that’s one of my jobs and I like it. I got home, got everything out of the car except my Coke and a gallon of milk. I go back down to get the milk and the soda, and as I walked in the door, the handle on the milk carton gives way. So now there is milk all over the entry way of the house, the baby was laughing at me, Albertson’s is going to give me a new gallon of milk when I get there and I have no idea how to clean a carpet. It has to get better from here, right?
You can’t. The milk will settle into the carpet, curdle and spoil. It will smell like puke for the rest of its days.
Seriously, sorry about your problems. That’s pretty mean of the unemployment folks to insist that you be available at the precise minute they call, with no exceptions.
Soak up as much of the spilled milk as you can (no crying over it, either). Use cold water so as not to coagulate it. Then use a normal carpet cleaning solution. If that doesn’t work, then you can cry over it.
Yes, it gets better from here. If it helps, think of all the worse things that could have happened. After all, you have a baby laughing at you, which is one of the nicer things in the world. Some day when he’s a surly teenager you’ll think back and treasure the day when you spilled the whole bottle of milk and he laughed at you.
Sorry about the split milk… You need an enzyme cleaner for the protein in the milk. The quart bottles of pet smell remover (Gonzo or Nature’s Miracle for example) should do the trick.
An alternative is Spot Shot which does a great job on blood and poo, but I wouldn’t use on a large area where the kidlet might go. Requires lots of ventilation.
seriously, how can they possibly do this? What happens if you don’t have a mobile phone? You’re shackled to the house until they deign to phone you? What if you’re driving when they call? Isn’t unemployment benefit a right, as long as you meet the criteria?
oh, and I don’t know how you get milk out of carpets … sorry!
Like most government programs that give out benefits, you are denied for not talking to the person during their one try to contact you. You then get to appeal and do without the benefit until you win the appeal. I have personal experience with this buracratic boondoogled benefits programs. They over paid me for 15 minutes extra on an unemplyment check. They sent a letter denying all future benefits until I requalify. It get more bezaire from there, and leave it at they must get back a check for about $2 and can’t remove the amount on the next check.
Hie yourslef to the nearest store likely to sell such things and treat yourself to a Bissell Spotlifter, (or any of their deep cleaners, probably). Like a Dustbuster on steroids. I don’t know what the hell is in the formula they include with it, but it gets everything out of carpets. I’ve cleaned up three-day-old cat barf with it, with no trace left behind.
My turn…
Last night dog vomited 3 times, last one included some blood. She throws up from time to time, so we went about our business.
This morning, I give feed the baby about 3 oz or pumped breast milk. As soon as she finished it ALL came right back up and soaked into the couch.
I clean that, leave for work, get a call at work that dog vomited 6 more times and the last few had blood in them, wife and MIL are taking dog to VET ER, few hours later I find they have put down a $1000 deposit, as that will be the minimum the ER will cost, still don’t know what’s wrong, but we’ve ruled out pancreatitis. Oh and on top of it all, my hip started hurting really bad yesterday, almost couldn’t walk on it. Seems to have gotten better today, but still bothering me. Oh, and new baby needs ultrasound this week to check something out with her.
So in the mean time, I’m at work reading SD and replying to threads with incomplete thought type sentences.
