thinking of playing again but I have a few questiions abut EQ and EQ2

Ok, I played EQ from for about the first 3 years and was getting ready to buy shadows of lucillin when my pc went down due to someone else stupidity and had to sell my house because of the same … and i wasn’t able ever to get back to it

eq2 had just been announced and WOW was on the way …

Now my question for EQ 1 is should i figure out how to bring back my ditz of a dark elf shadowknight ? or has it changed so much i might as let her rest in peace? and if i do decide to bring her back is it even possible?
gameplay-wise?

And about EQ 2 whats the major changes between it and the first?

and i know eq 1 plans goes free to permanent purchases … which models is more advantageous ?

and please share your good bad thoughts on both

and if so tell me what I need to /should know about it? it’s right when I stopped playing at the Velious expansion and i was thinking of playing EQ that way any and all thoughts tips and impressions and such are appreciated…

Moving to the Game Room.

Merging into the other thread you started this morning on Everquest, which you also mistakenly put in Cafe Society.

Just start over on the official servers. So much has changed and your Raw Silk Armor or whatever you were rocking in 2000, isn’t worth caring about.

The hardest things about coming back to EQ right now, in my experience are, in no particular order:

  • The UI is ABSOLUTE TRASH and really a struggle, and it’s going to have tons of new elements that are unfamiliar to you
  • Gear has gone way past wherever you are, as have level caps, so you may have trouble finding people to play with
  • Unless you want to pay for the game (it’s currently "“free to play”) you can’t access a lot of your stuff

You’ve been gone a long time. It’s going to be tough to come back, especially if you don’t know anyone.

Best bet there is to start on whatever the newest “progression server” is as those usually have the highest population of low level characters. Likewise, the paywall caps don’t really matter until you’re well into the game and by then you should have a good idea of what it’s worth to you.

This depends. If you had stuff you wanted in some of your bags, you won’t have access to it due to inventory restrictions. This won’t matter except as an annoyance if you are starting over, but the OP specifically asked about dusting off their old character.

He last played pre-Luclin. He’ll either play on a progression server and need to make a new character anyway or reclaim his character on a standard server and have gear worse than level 5 Defiant stuff.

hmmm ok as i said i was thinking of trying project 1999 as i found someone who is sharing his everquest titaniumn gamefiles

I wondered if anyone was familiar with that version too

It’s worth pointing out that it is worth keeping your old account rather than making a new one - there are “veteran” rewards that they dole out on a yearly basis and you’d be due a couple of decades worth of those.

how do i go about doing that ? i know i have to register an account but say "hey i had an account almost 20 years ago and i think i remeber my old sign in name and my character name and server …but thats about it ?

well crap my old guild page on which i had my character name went down it seems and i cant remeber how to spell the name …

Do you still have access to the email account you used? That would be a start, but I do remember them asking for the name of a character on the account as part of the process.

Yeah, character name is definitely NOT part of the login process; You need your account name and password, which should be retrievable as long as they are linked to an email address you still have.

Character name isn’t part of the login process but it is part of the account retrieval process if it’s not conveniently linked to your current email (along with original email, approximate date of account creation, etc)

I got to reminiscing as well a few years ago and tried out one of the free servers. I zoned, got the “Loading, please wait” text, then lost connection.

Same ol’ buggy EQ, I declared as I deleted the link.
