I called my dad today to wish him a happy birthday, and he immediately wanted to debate the merits of Catholic churches being forced to distribute birth control pills (or something to that effect).
He’s a classic devil’s advocate. He loves to argue. Not argue, really, because he never gets nasty and angry – he just loves to debate and get other people to debate with him.
I have no desire to debate such things with him, becase I always “lose.” But I get the feeling he’s starved for conversation. He just turned 71, my mom works a job where she’s gone for 3 days at a time, and I think he gets lonely. So was I wondering what it would be like if I told him about message boards – specifically, the SDMB.
For all I know, he’s already on message boards – he’s computer literate and apparently spends a lot of his time on-line, but I think he’s mostly shopping or looking at stuff he wishes he could buy.
