Okay, I have a lot of weird dreams. A LOT. Several each night, usually. Oftentimes, I remember 'em pretty well. Rarely, however, are they spooky. This one counted as “spooky” (in addition to it being weird).
Anyway, the earliest I remember is that me and a team of other Deep Space Salvage crewmen were off to find the starship Voyager (of Star Trek fame). This is weird in and of itself, since this violates stuff from the TV series, and the fact that my team was from a different series altogether (technology right out of Aliens). But it’s a dream, it doesn’t have to make sense.
Anyhoo, we find the ship in its pristine Trekky glory… sort of. It’s beaten up and all. Supposedly, it’s been floating out here, disabled, for fifty years. One of my teammates (who I swear I knew in the dream, but I have no idea who he… or any of them… are now) makes a comment about “finding any survivors”… which strikes me odd now, but, again, it was a dream.
Anyway, we go on board, the place is a mess, and while a lot of it does look Trekkish (rounded bulkheads, fancy-pants lighting, etc.) it’s all stuff you never see in any of the TV series (really WIDE hallways, for example). Anyway, we walk through the place with weapons drawn, but we find nothing until we come to the bridge, where we find Tuvok standing in some sort of meditative trance… he’s got a beard, and his clothes are ragged…
Right about here, the dream starts taking the shape of a creepy sci-fi horror movie… we notice that Tuvok’s got a bunch of bugs all over him. Apparently, he had been meditating for fifty years and his Vulcan physiology allowed him to survive while everyone else died (I know the problems this has with traditional Trek lore… it was a friggin’ dream!!!). Anyway, he’s covered with bugs… fleas, maggots, flys… because his meditation wasn’t disturbed by them being there, and why waste the energy to shoo 'em away?
Here’s where the movie-stuff comes in… I get a nice panning angle of his chest, where a lot of the bugs have congregated, then a shot of my face (and the faces of my crew) looking shocked and horrified. Lastly, there’s an extreme closeup of his eye, where even more (although much smaller) bugs are crawling on the surface of his pupil, and a tiny worm is even crawling between his eyelid and his eye. Yuck stuff, really.
Anyway, we snap him out of his trance, and he’s exactly like he is in the show (y’know, pompous and all). He tells us that the whole ship had been infested with Borg. Yeah, yeah, stereotypical ST plot. So we go to kill the Borg. ‘Cept this aren’t Borg-Borg. They’re like mangled undead cyborgs… anyone see the movie Virus? Remember what happened to the ships’ captain? Very crude, very disgusting cyborgs, bascially.
Anyway, we start killing these pseudo-Borg, but of course, there’s too many of them. Most of my team gets overrun and killed, and I run off with two of the other survivors (a man and a woman). We manage to ditch the huge horde of pseudo-Borg, and we find ourselves in one of those wide hallways again… and there’s a lone pseudo-Borg coming after us. And, suddenly, our weapons disappear (damn dreams!!!). Anyhoo, we know not to let the thing touch us, or we’ll be assimilated. So we play “tag” with it… run past it without getting tagged. We do so, easily.
It’s about now that I think, “Hey, this is only a movie… and I’m the hero! I can’t die!” Right then, one of my companions (the guy) dies. Which kind of dispels that happy little notion I just had.
Anyway, the girl and I crawl into the Jeffries’(sp?) Tube (basically, maintenance vents for the ship). She’s freaking out, I give her the stereotypical Heroic Calming-Down (but she doesn’t kiss me… even in my movie-dreams, I don’t get any).
So we’re crawling around, until we find Tuvok again, who says something along the lines of “we have to destroy the Borg’s central computer”. Right about now, the whole dream transforms into a video game… basically the game Metroid (remember that? Fun game…) and the three of us run around, on a two-dimensional screen, killing the pseudo-Borg (who, by now, have taken on the appearance of cheesy cartoony-robots that slightly resembled Jenner’s from the Mechwarrior 2 games). Then I suddenly skip ahead to the “End Boss” (it’s transformed into a video game, remember?) without any of the armor or weapons that I’d have collected throughout the rest of the game (and I only have four energy tanks!!).
So, anyway, I blow up the central computer (it’s defenseless) but out of it’s ashes rises a sort of glowing-ghost-pseudo-borg-thing that starts beating the crap out of me. I keep shooting it, but, well, I die. So the level starts over… I run up, start shooting the glowing-ghost-etc.etc. again, only this time, gaps have opened up in the floor. I fall into the pit, and die again. I restart, keep shooting, and the floor disappears out from underneath me altogether. I die, and I don’t have any more extra lives, so I wake up, perplexed in the fullest.
WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS ALL MEAN?!?!?!?!?
