Apologies to all the other conservatives but that guy went HAM* for the Republican cause. He was in every thread arguing polls, debates, campaign rhetoric, you name it. Then he just disappeared like Keyser Soze’(Verbal Kint?) Or maybe it’s post-election withdrawal. But I’m pretty sure that his ‘no longer posting’ is part of said withdrawal.
If you look at his posting history he has a track record of vanishing for long periods (months to years) in the past. His join date is 2003 so he has been around for some time and I suspect he will be back at some point.
This thread isn’t a Pitting right now, but if its main purpose is mocking adaher I will move it there or close it. In the meantime, follow the rules for this forum.
I felt kind of sorry for adaher the morning after the election. The guy wasn’t faking it; he had not a shred of doubt that Romney was going to win. I wonder how it must feel to believe in something so fervently and be shown to be so utterly, utterly wrong.
If I’m not mistaken, I believe adaher is an older guy. I hope he’s okay.
I kept my eyes open for something like this, and AFAIK adaher never put anything substantive where is mouth was. OMG, in contrast, made some actual predictions: I thought his pitting was confused: it didn’t assess OMG properly and it missed out on adaher.
Adaher gave every appearance of working or volunteering for the Romney campaign, notwithstanding the appearance of ambivalence in his earlier summer 2012 posts. When the election ended, further spinning became pointless. And it was spin: adaher rarely provided citations and even objected to the very idea of providing such substantiation in an ATMB thread. But he always had an answer for everything, even if it was made up. This behavior is problematic, since it’s much faster to blow smoke than to assemble a real argument. And it annoyed me when he answered a factual inquiry about businesses Romney had turned around, only to find later that his claims didn’t remotely survive scrutiny.
What’s the appropriate response to this ignorance-enhancing nonsense? Well the first step is to confirm the modus operandi, assuming the best. After that, stonewalling the poster with characterizations of their posts (i.e. they are uncited, unsubstantiated) within forum-appropriate limits, is one possible option.
You know, when doomsday cults see the day they’re sure is the last day of the world come and pass, do they become disillusioned and realize how wrong they were? No, actually, they become more fervent than ever. Somehow, being utterly sure you’re right at something and then being proven wrong actually increases your conviction that you were right, paradoxically. In the doomsday case, they figure out that they forgot to carry a 1 somewhere, and the apocalypse actually happens in 3 years.
In Adaher’s case, I don’t know - maybe he’s having tea parties with dolls that represent Romney’s cabinet resurrecting our country. AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!
