This fucking upgrade SUCKS!

Call me silly, but I think once Jerry gets the search function moved off the main server and it uses the advanced tool instead of the native search that response time will improve. This sounds like the correct path, though online databases are not in the area of IT I work.

Did you just return? I don’t remember seeing you around lately. Welcome back, if so, and if not…well, welcome back (today)!

This is the first I’ve been able to post in several hours; since about 1 pm I couldn’t even read anything.

I’m not ready to bitch yet (though I am whinging plenty!) but I do hope this gets resolved ASAP.

Well, I am posting just fine.

Ditto, but without the first “g” in whining.

Meh, I’m the byproduct of a linguistic clash between the US and the UK. My spelling of various words tends to vary. Next time things crash, I might very well leave out that “g”.

[hijack]When pronouncing the word spelled “whinging”, do you pronounce the first “g” or pronounce it “whining”?[/hijack]

Can I just ask if anyone has had mail disappear from their message box, after the weekends activity?

Arms tired yet? HA HA! I fuckin’ kill me. Whew! I got to sit down now.

O.K. . That last post took at least 9 minutes to load. Fuck. Me. Runnin’.

And No! I’m not going to hold still! Work for your reward, Bitches!

P.S. Yes I’m A spelling tard.:smack:

Here in Australia they pronounce it whinging – that is, “whinge” which rhymes with “fringe”.

Access and response times so far have been very poor. It may be an improvement overall, but there’s no obvious evidence of that yet.

Nope, I don’t pronounce the “g.” But with other Britishisms, such as “labour” or “humour,” I tend to emphasize the “u” sound.

I’m weird, I know.

PS- Omegaman, you crack me up!

Thanks IT… I’ve been around, but with the start of the semester and new classes, I have less time for posting. Hey, at least the board seems to be up to speed as promised…

Right. Whinge, cringe, fringe, binge…

Best upgrade ever!

I can’t believe I remembered my password.

Gee, good thing I couldn’t post all day due to the longass timeouts and white screens, because my complaint here would have been pretty much incoherent screaming and vituperative cussin’ the likes of which haven’t been seen since George Carlin did Lewis Black in the butt without Astroglide. I’m all better now, but it took a serious neck massage to chill my shit out.

I don’t think that’s necessarily always the case. I have my own domain and I have the forums, web and a few other bits with a hosting company but use google apps for mail etc., and I had to jump through a few hoops to get mail.blahblah, web.blahblah and forums.blahblah all resolving correctly and propagated out. I have no idea how straightdope.com is configured but I assume it’s non-simple.

You probably pay a hosting service, rather than have the server in house, which I presume their doing. Still, even for you, there shouldn’t be more than one hoop to jump through and a couple of hours. If it’s not that easy, you should look into other hosting services who don’t make easy things complicated.

It is simple, believe me. Bloody simple. It’s one line in a config file and a reboot.

Anything sent/received between Friday morning and Tuesday morning would have disappeared along with the weekend’s posts.
