This Honda ad is amazing

Check out this ad (courtesy of Slashdot) for the Honda Accord. Ridiculously cool.

I think the slashdot effect has toppled that server. Try this mirror

Wow! What an amazing ad!

OK, I’ll take one. Not that ugly hearse model, though. The sedan looks good.

Yes! This is the coolest advert I’ve seen for a long time. Love it.

Best ad I’ve seen in a LONG time!!

Wow…that’s absolutely amazing. And, according to the Slashdot article, took 606 takes! Some people have entirely too much time on their hands hehhehheh.

So the wheels actually went up the incline? I thought it was computer generated.

WOW. Yeah the wheel going up was a bit strange, but WOW.

:dubious:

:dubious: :dubious:

My vote is for computer assistance.

This site, mentions the visual effects but is kinda vague on if it is computer effects or just good camera work…

Anyone else have a sudden urge to play The Incredible Machine??

I saw that and immediately thought of Peter Fischli and David Weiss.
Scrolling down, i saw that it was indeed an homage.

Their film, “The Way Things Go” is really awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone with kids (well, maybe older kids. theres a lot of fire in the video). When I worked at the SFMOMA, anytime we’d put it in a large crowd would gather, mesmerized.

Apparently the wheels did, indeed, go up the incline because “they were weighted with bolts and screws.” Apparently there is only one-second of computer assistance, because the whole apparatus was shot in 2 halves due to its size; the computer assistance joins the 2 halves together.

Nope. Can’t be real. You can tell because the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Actually, considering it’s a UK advert, for the UK Hondas, the steering wheel is on the correct side.

It’s a fab ad. Saw it for the first time a couple of days ago. Was absolutely mesmerised. Love it, love it, love it. My faith in advertising creatives has been temporarily restored.

Brings to mind dear old Heinz Wolff and the Great Egg Race. Who remembers the Great Egg Race?

I’ll take the ugly hearse :stuck_out_tongue:

As per Straight Dope’s FAQ, I’m posting the query here instead of sending it right to Cecil.

The Honda ad is destined to be debated on numerous websites, the world over, with skeptic saying key sequences were computer enhanced, and optimists saying it was a clean shot. The website I hail from is currently debating just that. I recognize, from the links posted here, that it was not a clean one-shot, but at the same time, I am not willing to debunk it based on the “wheels rolling up” thing.

Does anybody have anything more substantial than the Daily Record (presumably) quoting Honda sources? I contend it was basically as it appears. Others claim that it was manipulated, or, even worse, sequences or stills were computer generated.

I have a hard time believing that the notion of wheels rolling uphill is enough to debunk an entire film sequence. But, I’m always willing to be proven wrong.

Fine! I didn’t want to edit anyhow!

Nothing personal but don’t you think your devoting a little too much attention to a commerical?

Ooh, me me me! Great program
