This is beyond insane (proposed Ugandan bill regarding homosexuals)

I wouldn’t say they condemn the bill.

In any case, they’re apparently only opposed to the bill because it will make it really hard to cure teh gay:

Oh boy, the Vatican (note: Catholicism, at 41.9% is the largest religion in Uganda) finally gets around to making a general statement in opposition to “all forms of violence and unjust discrimination against homosexual persons”.

Just recently, the Catholic Archdiocese of Portland, Maine funneled $378,445.88 (PDF file) to keep gay couples in Maine from marrying. I’m no Bible scholar, but I don’t recall those being Jesus’s priorities.

Ironically I saw a PBS special that used the apparently high-status of the female Kurgan burials (as well as their burial with instruments of war) to claim that they were a culture of warrior women!

If the death penalty is only for “intentional or willful transmission of the virus that causes AIDS” as this article reports: Uganda considers HIV death penalty – then it is a little harsh but quite within reach of the defensible. Especially in a country where AIDS probably still equals a death sentence.
