THIS is new experience to me (read this damnit)

Yeah, it was a good time. Rush puts on one hell of a breathtaking stage show.

Dear Og, what drama! I remember being 18. I dated musicians and was in a band. So I’m with ya there, Merla. But I have a few questions:

  1. Did you or did you not show Dan your “romantic writings”?
  2. Did you or did you not give him/let him borrow your necklace?
  3. Can you see why he might have thought you were interested, if the answers to the above are affirmative?

While you have every right to be annoyed that he was attempting romantic involvement with you while engaged, I don’t think he can be blamed for interpreting your signals “incorrectly.”

A few words of advice:

DO NOT attempt to date 26 year old musicians who live in cars. I know the whole “starving for our music” mystique is intriguing. What it really translates to is “I am too lazy to get a job and I am not really that talented.” You see, a really great band gets paid reasonably well for gigs. At least enough to afford a shitty studio apartment for the band. If they aren’t getting gigs, you might ask yourself why.

DO NOT hang out as “friends” with 26 year old musicians who live in cars. Or anywhere else, for that matter. Healthy, well-adjusted, 26 year old men are not particularly interested in being friends with 18 year old girls. Oh, they may want to hang out with you, but it isn’t your friendship they are after. I can hear you telling me I’m wrong. Trust me- I’m not.

DO use preview to make sure that your posts are clearly written. Preview is your friend.

Good luck and Best wishes.

Geddy Lee is a great, no, awesome bass player. But I have to say that I do wish he wouldn’t sing. I would LOVE Rush, if they acquired a new singer.

Anyone else here Glad To Be A Grownup?

Merla, when you’re one you can laugh at all the losers you met in 2003.

Hopefully with a sigh of relief that you outgrew your “get crushes on jerks” phase without any long-term damage).

I utterly agree, hyperjes. Geddy needs to NOT SING. Bass is great, I will agree there utterly, but his voice goes straight to the pain centers of my brain.

And I wish I’d dated in high school. Scratch that: I wish I’d known anyone worth dating in high school. Because I might not be so broken up about getting, well, broken up with.

I’ll leave my personal wailing about “but-we-were-perfect-together” and “I’ll-never-find-such-a-wonderful-guy-again” out of this thread, though. Well, except for right there.

All you Geddy worshipers…HEATHANS!

Bah preview is a bourgeois luxury. Post w/o proofing like the proletariat do.

As far as dating… Ah, bourgeois luxury also.

I just think that any discussion of bass players should also include the late, great Cliff Burton.

That is all.
