This is the first post in a thread where all posts are self-referential.
Huh? Don’t understand. Please 'splain.
This post hopefully clarifies things for confused readers by defining self-referential posts as being posts which describe themselves.
By way of illustration, this post has eleven words in it.
This post does more than nothing.
Various writers have composed stories, essays, and songs where every sentence is self-referenetial or the work as a whole is. Readers often find these works amusing. It’s my hope that some posters will enjoy thinking of creative ways to write self-referential posts and others will enjoy reading them. Obviously, people could follow the example of my previous post and simply describe their post in the most obvious manner. I’m hoping however, that the members of this board will find more creative ways to write within the confines set by the OP.
To aid in this, I set those confines as being guided by the post as a whole and not be the individual sentences in the post. Several sentences in this post, for example, contain no self-reference. But as a whole, this post is an illustration of how non self-referential sentences can add up to a self-referential post.
And I apologize for the fact that this post contains an intentional mispeling.
This post contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, halitosis, toenail fungus, AIDS, hemorraghic fever, homosexuality, heterosexuality, and pregnancy.
This is the post in which I complain that not everyone gets it.
This post is a response to Little Nemo’s last one, and points out that it’s just one of those things that modern writers do, and that not everybody necessarily understands it or enjoys participating.
I hope that, in some small way, this post will add to the overall success of this thread. I find that, in posts such as this, I seek some acknowledgement that my contribution, poor as it may be, has lead some other doper to submit their own words of wisdom, most likely more profound and timely than my own, but somehow connected to my humble offering. My post is not only self-referential, but also self-deprecating, thus affecting a minor change in the thread as a result.
I’m going to quote me next post.
I’m going to quote me previous post.
I don’t think this is a post at all.
I’m going to quote this post.
This post reminds me of a song,
This is the song that doesn’t end
Yes it goes on and on my friend
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was
And they’ll continue singing it forever just because

THWACK!

Bill Clinton sez:
This sentence contains a link which will demonstrate to Little Nemo and others that great minds think alike
This is the last sentence of this post.
This sentence is to state that the previous sentence lied.
This statement doesn’t lie when it says that it is really the last line of this post, but doesn’t really have a proper endin
This sentence is not a link, but people are apt to click the first part of it anyway.
This sentence refers to **Little Nemo[\b], who started this thread, but fails to close the bolding properly, causing the rest of the reply to be in bold.
This paragraph is bolded for no other reason than that mentioned in the previous paragraph. This sentence fleshes out the paragraph that begins with the previous sentence, lest it be a paragraph of only one sentence. Hi, Opal!
[handy]This is an experment with vB code, in case it willl work, although i am not sure about this last part.[/handy]
This is an apology for this poster taking a shot at another member. This sentence offers some lame excuse about it being Monday morning and the poster having a hellish commute.
I’m not sure this post fits in with the rest of the thread. Can I please verify it for me?
