This is a POST. This writing is the STYLE of the post. The SYTLE is to draw your attention to it and encourage you to read it. When you have done that maybe you’ll be persuaded to read more of my posts, then to go to my Web site (when I put it up) and read some of my book reviews, fiction, and daily diary. Then, when I have a book published, you will BUY that as well. The idea being that the more of you that read my posts, and eventually buy my books, the more money my publisher and myself will make. To the aforementioned this is known as PLEASURE. A good post is one that attracts more buyers and gives more pleasure. This writing is trying to pull you in much like an eye-catching picture. It is designed to get you to READ IT. This is called luring the VICTIM, and you are the VICTIM. But if you have a free mind you should STOP READING NOW! because all I am attempting to do is to get you to read on. Yet this is a DOUBLE BIND because if you indeed stop you’ll be doing what I tell you, and if you read on you’ll be doing what I’ve wanted all along. And the more you read on the more you’re falling for this simple device of telling you exactly how a good post works. They’re TRICKS and this is the worst TRICK of all since it’s describing the TRICK whilst trying to TRICK you, and if you’ve read this far then you’re TRICKED but you wouldn’t have known this unless you’d read this far. At least I’m telling you directly instead of seducing you with a haunting story or a funny joke or using words like f***nut like jarbabyj. I’m letting you know that you ought to read this post because in essence it’s a PRODUCT and PRODUCTS are to be consumed and you are a consumer and this is a good PRODUCT. What I am really suggestion is that you are FOOLISH to read or not read a post or visit my Web site or buy my book merely as a consequence of the STYLE in this post. This is a con because if you agree then you’ll probably like this writing - which is the style - and hence my Web site and book reviews and etc. But I just warned you against that. The con is a con. And this is the POST.
This is the RIP-OFF. This piece was stolen from the cover of XTC’s excellent album GO2 and rewritten to fit the confines of this thread. You should be angry with me. But you won’t. Or you can try, but you can’t, because I openly admit this is a rip-off. This keeps you from complaining to the mods that it’s plagiarism. It also allows me to get away with doing something reprehensible, and still claim the credit for doing something really cool. The con is a con again. I could sell this to McSweeney’s and gain the reputation as a hip and cutting-edge writer, when I’m really a fortysomething f— sitting here at 3:11 a.m. EST in my underwear and drinking a bottle of 20/20. As David Bowie says, “This is the West. Get used to it.” And this is the RIP-OFF.
