In that case, sorry for spoiling the episode for you.
Well honestly I kind of saw it coming. This show is like that though, they have a lot of foreshadowing that seems so obvious, but then enough surprises that I keep coming back. It didn’t bother me either that he was with a married woman because it seemed that they were broken up already and it looked hopeless. He shouldn’t be having sex with her for AA reasons I guess but “the heart wants what the heart wants” and both their hearts seemed to wanna do it. Hopefully their story will have a happy ending because the Zoe thing seemed doomed from the start anyway.
I loved the golf story so much though. Randall’s story is more fascinating to me than the rest.
That is Boathouse Row, on the Schuylkill River, just a little North of the art museum and across the river from the zoo.
Thanks for bumping the thread. We’ve had to DVR a couple of episodes and catch up the following week, so I haven’t been staying current.
I too, really enjoyed the Randall golfing episode. First I thought it took real guts to risk looking like a complete idiot on the golf course just to try to mend fences with the other councilmen. But then to discover that he was “playing down” to them the whole time… Just perfect.
I’m curious to see where they go with Kate and her record store boyfriend. I get the feeling he must have been abusive or something.
I, too, was highly disappointed. Most of this show is a family trying to do the right things all the time. There is nothing right about sleeping with a married woman. And he didn’t even have alcohol to blame.
Damn you, Kevin!
Not perfect.
Randall was deceptive, conniving and manipulative. Of course, the end justifies the means, right? :dubious: On what basis did he decide that the best approach was to lie about his golf ability?
Also, Kevin is the actor, not Randall. It’s unrealistic to have Randall “stay in character” for the 3-4 hours of a golf game and not have any of the three men notice that he’s better than what he pretended to be.
And how long does Randall expect to carry on the ruse? Did nobody notice him at the driving range?
I hated Deja’s boyfriend. I don’t know why his interference bothered me so much when Randall’s flashback interference didn’t. I think they were supposed to both work together and show that the boyfriend (Malik?) is a good person just like Randall but I got creepy control freak vibes. I didn’t get supportive person trying to help Deja find the courage to speak up. I found him bossy and way out of line. And then talking to Bethany like they were PEERS. I found it too familiar and just plain yuck.
Not that I think he was wrong in principle, but I thought the execution was not endearing. I don’t think the show was trying to go for a pre-stalker, emotional abuser thing.
It sounds like Rebecca is showing the first signs of Alzheimer’s or some other memory disorder. I think that explains who Randall and his daughter were on their way to visit a season or two ago.
I think so too. I think she’s taking so many pictures because she can’t remember things.
Anyone else catch the shout out to Once Upon a Time?
It’s a good show, but I’m about sick to death of adult Kate and Toby, and the baby doesn’t interest me in the least. It’s the weakest part of the show.
I’m interested in seeing how they tie Toby and Kate’s story together. IIRC, it’s implied at the end of the last season, where Rebecca is dying, that they are no longer together.
Honestly, the thing with the avocado was a bit silly. Maybe because they’re first time parents, and I understand Toby missing a couple of “firsts” but Kate was overly upset about it. Couldn’t she just take it as First Time Daddy Feeds Baby Jack Avocado?
Doesn’t it seem odd that everyone seems to scatter to the four winds on Thanksgiving? “Oh, I’m going to a movie.” “Oh, I need a snack with my niece.” “Oh, I have to drive to New Jersey.” (I can kind of see that one, to get the Pilgrim Rick hat.)
I didn’t think pregnant women could eat shellfish? It seems kind of odd that Big Baby Jack (oh, boy, this back and forth is going to kill me) would bring out five pounds of shrimp to his pregnant wife. Why wouldn’t he be celebrating with his family?
The part at the end with Rebecca was heart-wrenching. Was that an accurate portrayal of the early stages of Alzheimer’s? Do you get distracted and then forget what you were doing originally?
I missed this, but it was pointed out that Kate signs her name as “Kate Pearson” when Rebecca makes it to the cabin in the future flash forward, but then I’ve read that was a red herring since she never took Toby’s name when they got married.
Any ideas on what the falling-out is between Randall and Kevin? And I bet we’re supposed to think Kevin’s fiance is Cassidy, but again, this show is great at the misdirection.
Shrimp is “low mercury” and considered safe for pregnant women. Not sure why blind Jack wouldn’t be with his family but maybe by that time they’ve passed away?
When Kate signs the paper, she is wearing her wedding ring. Not sure what the implications are here, but since it’s only 9 months into the future, perhaps they are separated?
My guess is that Randall and Kevin are not speaking for either of two reasons: 1. Kevin’s ticked off for not telling the family sooner about Rebecca’s illness, or 2. Randall is resentful towards Kevin for helping Tess come out to her friends instead of Randall being the one to do so.
Randall doesn’t seem the type to stew, so if he were upset about Tess coming out I think he would have pulled Kevin aside then and there. I’m going to guess their blow-up is about something that hasn’t been revealed yet.
Thanks for the info about the shrimp!
The whole misdirection thing with Rebecca was really well done, but now I need to go back and watch again. I didn’t notice at the time if she was wearing the same clothes as when she left the house on Thanksgiving, but that would have been a sure tip-off. Was she wearing a coat? Nine months after Thanksgiving would be August…
It seems odd that [del]Russell[/del] Randall would notice Bec’s memory problem, but not Miguel, who lives with her every day. Or maybe he’s noticed but just never bothered to say anything?
I’m guessing the Kevin/Randall feud is related to Tess’ coming out. I thought for sure that the person at the drive-thru speaker would turn out to someone Tess goes to school with.
When she stormed out of present day Thanksgiving, she was wearing pajamas and was going to change. So we didn’t see her as she left the house.
I think Miguel has noticed, as he had to buy her a new iPhone (three cameras, nice product placement there. I hope NBC got their money’s worth from Apple) but he could be in a state of denial.
I’m also going to bet that the “her” in Toby’s text (don’t let “her” get you down) may be Toby’s boss, and that a female co-worker is commiserating with him. But Beth is right…talk to your SO about what’s bugging you, not other people.
I got the impression that Randal was okay with it and a little relieved actually. Didn’t feel like it would be an issue that would fester into a feud between brothers. Their relationship has always had its peaks and valleys. My money is on something else (whose hint has probably been missed by everyone) causing this.
And the bookie gave me points.
I’m pretty sure they got the betting part of the story incorrect. It’s not shocking to get points for a football when betting on it.
And it seems like he won more than $200 that he said he bet, which doesn’t make sense.
I’m betting (ha!) that the brotherly fallout is over their mother and what to do about it.
Makes perfect sense if he was getting 3 to 1 odds, or maybe even 4 to 1.
I guess the game was played back when there was no OT? So if it’s a tie or Dallas loses Nicky wins?
