I’ve started a couple of threads about my geriatric kitty, Puff, who is 18 years old and has taken to peeing on my bed. On the advice of this board, I took her to the vet who said she was astoundingly healthy other than that her kidneys were failing. Well, she’s old. We decided to wait and watch. I bought a waterproof mattress pad.
Today I came home from the store and noticed that she was avoiding her box and trying to pee in dribs and drabs on the bed, and wherever else. There’s blood in her urine. Then she threw up (although that’s not that uncommon).
I’m waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up so we can take her to the emergency vet because if nothing else she’s uncomfortable and needs treatment. But she might not come home.
Merry, I hope you update us after your visit. The symptoms don’t seem to be indicative of end-stage kidney disease, where you would have to make Difficult Decisions, they seem to be more urinary tract infection symptoms. Even if there is no bacteria in the urine, I wonder if a course of antibiotics would be in order. Let us know what happened.
FYI, end-stage renal disease is not painful, at least for the patient.
Oh I’m so sorry to hear the kitty is not well. Two of my three cats are old, and although healthy I keep wondering when I’ll start to see the beginning of their end.
She’s having blood and urine tests run. I’ll decide what to do based on those. Boyfriend had to go let his dog out, and needs food. Further updates to follow. Thanks everyone.
I’m sorry Merry. I just lost my ~15.5 yr old cat last month. It helps to know that my mother held her at the end; I’m glad to know that your Puff also had someone who loved her there.
