This really does say it all......

Ok, this isn’t an original of mine, I’ll admit it, but I sure wish it was , though. It’s so hard to argue with…
This says it all!

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver’s license with her face covered, this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn’t he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the “politically correct” crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust " is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don’t like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every! citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

AMEN

I could pick this apart on soooooo many points. It was written long before the veiled Floridian driver’s license incident. It’s been circulated, ad nauseum, on the internet. Just another right wing, red neck, empty flag waving attempt at destroying the basic foundations of this country.

So Muslim=immigrant? Since when?

So tell me comrade Kalhoun…just what are the basic foundations of this country…in your humble , left wing opinion??
And how can you “pick this apart” in soooo many ways? Regardless of how old it is, what exactly is THAT wrong with the message? Enlighten me, please…

Satan thanks you for your prayer.*

*What? You thought the One True God would actually tolerate listening to your Evil Hate-Filled Ignorant Diatribe as a ‘prayer’ without turning your worthless Televangelist Ass into a Pillar of Salt???

Ah, if only Native Americans had had this attitude…

Obviously you’ll want immigarants to bring exciting new ideas to the US then?
Oh, apparently not.

What happened to the native Americans?

Presumably this is a euphemism for everyone who is not white, male, Christian and heterosexual, i.e. the ones who need to do what they are told.

I’m not American, but isn’t there something in the Constitution about the separation of Church and State?

The right to free speech - enshrined in the American constitution, and a great example to the World.
Because it means you can criticise anything, and not fear retribution.

Apparently not.

Gee, I wonder if a fanatical Republican Christian had anything to do with this?

(And it didn’t seem hard to argue with either…)

1: Our national motto is not only “In God We Trust”. Anyone who claims that is an automatic enemy of all Dopers, since to make such a claim is to engage in gross ignorance. The national motto of the USA is also “E Pluribus Unum”. We have two. As an unreconstructed hard-line old-school conservative, I prefer the latter to the former, since E Pluribus Unum was used by the Founding Fathers while “In God We Trust” is a Jonny-come-lately attempt at a “motto”.

As a country, we have never been monolingual. Yes, one can presume English in most places, but there have always been non-English communities within the USA. In earlier eras, they spoke German or French. Likewise, the langauges of the Chinatowns across America (and nothing is more all-American than an American Chinatown) includes Chinese in its many forms. In any case, any group that wants to remain marginalized and powerless is free to cling to its language. Any group that wants to have a hand in running things will adopt English. There is no need to “protect” our language. Only a crybaby ninny thinks it is necessary.

Likewise, this idiot of a reporter obviously never read the Constitution of the USA. Regardless of what “principles” our country might or might not have been founded on, the Founding Fathers did deem it necessary to prohibit the government from supporting any religion over another, INCLUDING Christianity. Otherwise, why not found “The Church of the United States of America” in 1787 instead of explicitly PROHIBITING such a thing?

Likewise, what if a CITIZEN dares to “gripe” about any of this guy’s cult devotion items? Does he insist that such a CITIZEN, exercising Constitutionally-protected rights must be expelled?

I say that the first group who need expulsion are the “America, Love it or Leave it.” crowd. That way, real patriots can do what needs to be done without Jonny Jingo getting in our way.

No they didn’t.

Didn’t he just say that the US’s multiculturalism was what made this country great?

We do? Oh, that must be why Texans are so similar to New Yorkers, or how a Montanan is nearly identical to a Georgian. I’m currently leafing through US Statutes to find out our Official Language. I’ll be back when I find it…

Again, I’ll be happy to provide a link or cite once I get through all this…

No, we adopted “In God We Trust” to frighten off those scary Communists. If the founding fathers wanted “God” in the national motto, I suspect they were smart enough to do so. As they didn’t it seems foolish to credit them with something they didn’t do.

Who’s offended by Uncle Sam?!? Seems the author is making shit up just to keep writing. I’d call it a strawman argument, but I don’t really see an actual argument.

This seems to be in compete contradiction with everything else this person has said. I’m just glad my ancestors weren’t met with the same attitude so many years ago - this country would suck ass if they had been.

“Allow”?!? I’m sorry, but that just connotes an arrogance firmly founded in ignorance. It’s too bad that our flag is sullied by opinions like this.

Upon review of cartfan’s other posts (both of them), it looks like he just likes to post little patriotic rants and not respond to any other posts/questions/critiques. Sound and fury something something.

Incidentally, Cartfanhef, California’s state constitution was written in both Spanish and English, and the state was inducted into the union AS (snort, chortle) a multi-lingual state. And yes, I am well aware that most 'Muricans such as yourself do not consider us Californians to really be Americans. Even though we uphold the Bill of Rights with as much passion as, if not more than, any other state in the union.

Yes, but glee, you don’t count because of that whole not American thing you’ve got going on.
Can I come live with you when it’s discovered that I’m not Patriotically Correct?

I was going to pick apart the OP, but others have done a much better job than I was going to do, so I’ll leave it at that.

Cartfan, you say “comrade” like it’s a bad thing!

I won’t bother to detail the ridiculous crap being spewed in your original post. My fellow commies are doing a fine job without me. Rest assured, you will find me at the patriotic rally that defends flag burning, speaking foreign languages, and dissing my government. I wil be signing any and all petitions to remove “god” from anything issued by the government or related to the government. I will push to get the “g” word removed from the pledge. I will do these things because I’m an American (and a good one at that!). And if YOU don’t like what America is all about, GOOD! No one says you have to! Remember, this is America!:wally

This is the fucking email that drove me to filtering the emails my bloody mother-in-law spams me with.

Seeing as I’m not American or Christian and don’t live in the US, I think she was trying to hint at something.

Whitey happened. :frowning:

I don’t have much to add, other than saying the e-mail reprinted above is a steaming pile of jingoistic monkey crap.

:wally

You got the short version forwarded to you, it looks like. The full version, and a nice shredding of it, can be found on Snopes.

Where’d our little flag-waver go?

Now when you say it, I’m not offended.

(short pause while glee frantically cleans his glasses, which have unaccountably steamed up)

Hubba Hubba!!

God bless America!

I’m liking the Supreme’s decision on pre-verted activities. The first paragraph of Justice Kennedy’s decision was a pretty opinion on the 14th Amendment. Even Justice O’Conner’s opinion was heartening. She upheld the Constitution. The Consitution does not require you to uphold it. She did, and I’m happily amazed.

Scalia reckons he interprets the Constitution. Fuck with me and I’ll fuck you up.

Scalia: “Sandy, you ignorant slut”

I fear the day Scalia becomes Chief Justice.

The kid ran into some harsh realities and is now recovering from the shock.

Probably weeping over this AND the tragic loss of Strom Thurmond. Why do they always have to go so young?
