When we last left our intrepid hero, Mrs. Magill had just lost her job. Of course that was four months ago. Those of you in the CECIL channel in City of Heroes have been hearing bits and pieces of development since then. This is pretty much the whole story.
Mrs. Magill managed to find a job within two weeks of being laid off. In fact, she had been offered several and selected one before her official last day with her old company. Must be nice.
The new job is in Charlotte, so the Magill family is moving out of Atlanta. I can’t say I’m disappointed to leave this city. The only drawback to Charlotte I have found so far is the radio stations are all owned by Clear Channel. The NPR station, OTOH is fan-effin’-tastic.
Mrs. Magill started the job in February. By the end of that month, we had bought a house in rural Union county. I think it’s a dry county, but I’m spitting distance from a liquor store in South Carolina, and the nearest grocery store is in Mecklenburg county, so that’s not a problem. There’s a horse farm right behind us. The view is beautiful, and right before it rains, it really smells like the country. The house is big enough for Mrs. Magill, Fang, and me, and there is a lot of room for HC2 [1].
The furniture went up to the new house in March. Actually, Mrs. Magill and were moving on our birthdays. We wowed the movers when we were able to fill up a four bedroom + bonus room house with a two bedroom apartment’s worth of furniture. We own a lot of crap.
I stayed behind. Me, an air mattress, a lap top, a dresser, a TV, and a lease that ran out at the end of May. My mission: find a job in Charlotte. Every once in a while, Fang would stay with me, when Mrs. Magill would have to fly to Chicago. Two year olds don’t stay home alone real well. [2]
Today, I was offered a job in Charlotte with a medium sized CLEC. I will be paid industry standard once more. I will also be quite busy - a very refreshing change from being Peter reading the SDMB seven and a half hours each day, and spending thirty minutes doing actual work.
In all, I’m in a very good mood today.
