THIS song sound just like THAT song.

“Semper Paratus” (the song of the US Coast Guard): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rC9WxzBPKw and the German marching song “Rosemarie”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GALAU9VO7es

“Battle Hymn of the Republic”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVsNCllEHD0 and “Lore Lied”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVHu_SgZmBU

Ah, thanks.

At the end of the Deep Purple version, they play the riff at half-speed tempo – in other words, the same tempo as the Beatles do. So that’s when the resemblance is most noticeable.

Yep, I’d throw John Fogarty’s “Centerfield” in there as well. I’ve had gigs where we’ve thrown in parts of all three songs, sometimes even on purpose!

The Spider-Man theme and “Steppin’ Out with My Baby.”

The third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Three Little Maids from School Are We” (from The Mikado).

Mozart’s Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen (from Die Zauberflöte) and “I Have a Little Dreidel.”

And a new song by the Avett Bros: Good to You

All beautiful songs.

Just to correct myself here, “Hush” was written by Joe South but originally recorded by Billy Joe Royal in 1967.

I love this thread!!

OK, I have two. Both of them were surprisingly obvious to me, but I had to explain them to most of my friends.

  1. Loverboy Lovin Every Minute Of It is the EXACT same thing as Warrant Cherry Pie

I can’t believe Jani Lane wasn’t sued by Loverboy for that one.

  1. KISS Love theme / Acrobat and Pearl Jam ALIVE

Considering the KISS song was released in 1974, I’m assuming Eddie Vedder’s inspiration was rather obvious.

90% of Weird Al Yancovics’ ouevre. By design, of course, but still.

The last movement of Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 2 and the Simpsons theme.

The “Airwolf” theme and the theme for “The X-Files.” X-Files just sounds like Airwolf, played slow.

I think you need to throw some “Sweet Home Alabama” in there too.

I can’t believe no one’s pointed out the minor similarities between Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Sixteen” and Brian Wilson’s “Surfin’ USA.”

Bringing back in my rap specialty.

Tupac - All Eyez on Me and Nas - Street Dreamz

Rick Ross - MC Hammer and Rick Ross - B.M.F. (both were producer by Lex Luger…Lex gettin’ lazy)

Will Smith - Switch and Rihanna - Pon de Replay

Sidenote: What happened to Rihanna in between Pon de Replay and now?!?! Holy lord, I miss that Rihanna so much.

I’ve never seen Airwolf, but Fringe’s theme sure reminded me of The X-Files.

Take a bit of Breakfast Machine, add a hefty dose of Powerhouse, and you’ve got the main title theme from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

I was tossed out of the kindergarten choir because I kept singing, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm . . . and Bingo Was His Name-O”. Made sense to me.

Madonna’s Express Yourself and GaGa’s Born This Way

I wouldn’t call them “minor” and Chuck certainly didn’t. IF I remember correctly he sued and forced the BB to change the writing credits to C. Berry and B. WIlson.

The following seem to have stolen riffs or melodies from each other:

The Beatles’ “Birthday” and “The Greeks Don’t Want no Freaks”

Argent’s “Hold Your Head Up” and “When You Dance, I Can Really Love” by Neil young.

“Truckin” by The Grateful Dead and “The Ballad of John and Yoko” by The Beatles.

“Enter Sandman” by Metallica got its bass line from “Space Truckin” by Deep Purple.

City and Colour’s “Sleeping Sickness” sounds almost exactly like “Thompson Girl” by The Tragically Hip. I’d assume it’s related to The Hip’s lead singer appearing on “Sleeping Sickness”.
