It must be quite motivating though to genuinely 100% believe that God himself has destined that you will win.
For that alone, I reckon Goran’ll do it.
Incidentally as at this time, Goran is 2-1 up in sets but a break down in the fourth.

And Goran wins. Unbelievable.
Howdy Andy!!
Lanza was incredible. Like bog doors in the wind. too much vodka.
Wimbledon. Bugger!
Indeed, woolly but what a blinder of a match ! Never seen anyone with their eyes welling up at match point before. Goran’s definitely bonkers. I just hope Pat does come back again next year if only because Henman will need some quality opposition
Goon man, John - Does that mean you still played a long innings at the crease or was play temporarily suspended ?
err, make that: Good man, John (I think…)
Although I was disappointed that Rafter didn’t win, it was good seeing Goran finally winning tennis’ holy grail. Can you imagine if he had lost it for a FOURTH time?? I think a fourth Goran would emerge to shoot the other three.
Another good thing to come out of Rafter’s loss is that maybe getting so close twice will make him rethink his retirement.
The bloody Aussies are everywhere! Stuart O’Grady just took the yellow jersey in the 3rd stage of The Tour de France! You can get up to the minute info here - http://www.letour.com/2001/us/index.html
[arrogant Aussie bastard hat on] I notice that Butcher, Stewart and Atherton have all indicated that they do not want the captaincy whilst Hussain is injured. It would seem that considerations include players who could not make the team even in the absence of two first-pick batsmen! How about that sterling performer (only one of three to make double figures in the second innings) Sundries as England captain for the second test?
*[sub]This gag ripped off ABC TV’s The Fat.[/sub]
Hmm. Never heard of this Sundries player. We do have a remarkably useful chap called Extras though. Maybe he’ll do instead?
pan
Sundries was indeed the correct terminology of my school days and I regret its passing in English cricket. FWIW, I suspect they will continue to contribute a sizeable proportion of the score until English Asians provide the majority of the English team – it’s a sad fact that cricket continues to wane amongst the general population and I believe the continued enthusiasm of the ethnic minorities is the only real mid-term hope. The composition of the England eleven in, say, 10 years will be quite radically different.
I’m reading that Jonny Wilkinson is 50/50 for Saturday – presumably that means he’ll play (and the rest is misinformation). This is a great relief. I’m getting nervous already.
God only knows who will replace Hussain (as batsman and as captain) – time for some fresh young blood, I hope. Rumours are suggesting Trescothick might be the captain.
Long innings at the crease?
7 sixes in an over, my goon man
Do you know what time it is? I have it written on a piece of paper…
So no mention of the Wallabies vs Lions series?
Still a little dazed, here. Not overly impressed with the Lions leadership on the pitch or the management off. Great spirit by the Dodgers, crap tactics by the Lions.
Shouldn’t have happened. Not as if things are about to improve (Second Test starting Thursday), either. Bollocks.
And the current wearer of the yellow jersey is… Australian too!
Are there are any pommy riders? If not, then we won’t count it in this thread.
I’m not mentioning le lanterne rouge. Nope. Not at all.
::weeps::
Never seen a Dodger on a bike before. Seen a few late at night walking down the road with expensive wheels but I guess that’s just free enterprise
Second Test just underway at Lords. Atherton is captain, lost the toss (that makes 13 out of the past 14 in Ashes Tests) and is batting…wait, bad light just stopped play. Thorpie’s back (hurrah !) as is Ramprakash (may God help us). We’ve gone for an all seamer attack …scary huh ? (shuttup in the cheap seats). Your lot is unchanged.
Will England hang on for an heroic rain affected draw ?
The Open’s also underway this morning, any golf fans out there ?
Come on L_C, chin up.
Wasn’t it David Gower commenting on the 1989 series (Australia regained the Ashes with a 4-nil win) who said that England had done well to get nil?
[sub]me.[/sub]
Geez, how did I miss this thread for so long? I wouldn’t have got nearly as excited about the rugby if that Pommy player (whatshisname) hadn’t been shooting his mouth off about “uncouth Orrrrstralians” prior to the game.
I’d like to see the English do better at Lord’s. Great to see Australia as a dominant force in cricket, but a strong English side is good for the game (and to cut the Aussies down to size a bit - they still have a bit of arrogance to lose).
woolly - As Mr Humphries used to say to Mrs Slocombe: Very droll
Yep, of course you are ! - I look forward to the Ryder Cup thread with some trepidation. Meant to ask you: How does the social side work in Utah, I know alcohol is a problem, does that also affect the 19th hole or is it ok in private clubs ?
Dog – I think it was Austin Healey. Maybe it was what he thought, maybe he was ‘encouraged’ to be controversial by the journo. Whatever, it was bloody stupid.
