Is he back? Wasn’t he killed off for good, then “replaced” in the circle of friends by Butters, then Tweek (sp?)? If so, why am I seeing him again? Or am I just catching old episodes I’ve never seen before.
Serious answer: Kenny has popped up in a few eps this season. I can’t remember if he’s been getting killed in all of them but I think he’s been killed in a couple of them. I think he got killed by the gingers last night.
He came back ina Christmas episode a few years back. Santa is sent to Iraq by Cartman, Jesus and the boys go to rescue him. Jesus is killed. When the boys get back, there’s Kenny.
I’m also a spotty South park viewer (I only recently re-subscribed to cable, but I’ve picked up the DVD collections), and here’s my understanding based on the eps that I’ve caught.
In early seasons, Kenny would die every episode (with some special exceptions like one of the Christmans episodes) only to come back good as new the next one.
Matt and Trey apparently got tired of the gag, and in the last “real” episode of Season 5 (not counting “Butters very own episode”) Kenny died permanently.
During season 6 the other three kids filled Kenny’s postion with various other little boys (Butters and Tweak were the main ones, but there may have been others). A common statement I remember towards Butters was “Kenny would’ve done it”.
3.5) Somewhere in here, Kenny’s ghost possesed Cartman (since Cartman drank Kenny’s ashes, thinking it was chocolate milk mix). Chef’s parents excorcise Kenny’s spirit, where (since they lacked the requisite “sacrifice child” to put Kenny’s soul into) Kenny ended up inside a pot roast. The roast was then lost at the Denver Airport baggage claim, and eaten by Rob Schneider. That appears to have spanned a few different episodes, though.
In the season 6 Christmas episode “Red Sleigh Down”, Kenny shows up at the end with no real comment other than “Hey, Kenny.”
Since then, I’m not aware of any return to the “They killed Kenny!” schtick. Kenny did die (twice) in the “Best Friends Forever” parody of the Teri Schavo case, but he really would’ve been the best character for the job.
I used this ep guide to try to supplement my memory.
Kenny was killed off for most of a season and then his spirit was put into Cartman when Cartman drank Kenny’s ashes thinking they were chocolate milk mix. So, Kenny was in Cartman for about half a season. Kenny’s spirit was eventually reincorporated into a new body and now Trey and Matt don’t kill Kenny any more.
Rob Schneider derp de derp. Derp de derpity derpy derp. Until one day, the derpa derpa derpaderp. Derp de derp da teedily dumb! From the creators of “Der” and “Tum Ta Tittaly Tum Ta Too”, Rob Schneider is “Da Derp Dee Derp Da Teetley Derpee Derpee Dumb”! Rated PG-13
I think sciguy basically got it all. When Kenny was gone for an entire season, and suddenly just wandered onto the screen, it was probably one of the funniest moments in South Park history.
While we’re at it, which season are we in now? Because the one where Butters goes to the girls’ slumber party in disguise to get the fortune-teller is listed on several online guides as “909,” that is, season 9, episode 9. But it’s the first new episode since about a year ago, so my understanding was that it would be 1001 (season 10, episode 1). Furthermore, the commercials all refer to the “new season of South Park” and I hardly think that this season could be called “new” if it includes the 8 episodes from last fall (starting with Mr. Garrison’s sex change operation).
