This thread is for Tisiphone...

What is that “A is for Amy who fell down the stairs” poem? I liked what you had before. Is it copyrighted? I would like to put it to music.

PS. Congrats on passing your Newbie Rites.

This sounds like Edward Gorey’s poem “The (something like “Gashlycrumb”) Tinies”. It certainly is copyrighted – and illustrated by Gorey. It’s available as a stand-alone book, as a poster, and I’ve seen it anthologized.

Sorry I’m not Tisiphone.

I’m not Tisiphone, either. Cal nailed it. It’s by Edward Gorey and yes, it’s copyrighted.

Here are the lyrics.

Sorry I’m late. The Great Countdown has begun, and I have two children. Christmas shopping! Fun, fun, fun!

Of course you have the answer by now. Copyright issues would be part of the reason I didn’t type the whole thing. The other part would be I’m too lazy …

Aand some more links.

Edward Gorey RUL3Z!!!

You would probably also enjoy “The Curious Sofa”, by Ogdred Weary. Same author. Some of my favorites have just been reprinted in adorable little hardcovers by Harcourt Brace& Company, in case you wanted to know.

If you do ever set “The Gashleycrumb Tinies” to music, I would like to hear it please.

And for more entertainment, try Shel Silverstein.
And thank you, thank you, I hope to be mostly ornamental and occasionally useful fighting ignorance.
