This year's walnuts. Did you find more bad ones than usual?

Walnuts are always my favorite nut during the holidays. There’s something so relaxing shelling and eating them. They’re just about gone from the stores now. I still have a couple bags left. No more walnuts until next November.

This year I consistently found more bad ones than usual. I’d guess 1 out of 5 was dried up and had those yucky spider webs in them. I bought one bag that easily had 1 out 3 bad ones. I ended up eating a few that weren’t too badly dried up but they were a little rancid tasting. That’s pretty expensive at over $5 a 16 oz bag for walnuts.

Did you experience the same this year? I wonder if it was the drought in California?

I have a grove of black walnuts and this year we had none. My grandma, who lives about 250 miles from me called this fall and asked me to bring her some because her trees were barren and I had to tell her that it wasn’t just her.

So there’s some anecdotal evidence for you from Wisconsin.

I had the same problem of no more then a literal handful of black walnuts from my tree this year, which is usually squirrel central. I was wondering if it was the bad winter and late spring we had.

I live a few miles east of August West and my experience is just like his. Which is fine with me, the damn squirrels can bloody starve and stop destroying my attic!
