Thomas Hardy's Ale...Vintage 1989

OK…so I went down to this place near DuPont Circle called the Brickskellar with some friends. It has become something of a routine for us…we go down there and try a new beer or five each night. Our hope is to finish off as many as possible by May. I keep a beer list of theirs at home and highlight the ones I’ve had to make it easier to keep track.

Anyways…last night I had one called Thomas Hardy’s Ale, Vintage 1989. It cost me about $7 for a 6 oz. bottle. But good GOD was it worth it.

It had the richest, fullest, most outstanding flavor I’ve ever experienced in an ale. I spent 20 minutes savoring that 6 oz. Absolutely amazing.

Here’s what it says on the back… “This ale is one of very few British ales bottled with its natural yeast and it will mature in the bottle like fine wine.” And it goes on. But yeah. Bottle with its original yeast. Oh man. It was absolutely amazing.

Here is a bit about the history of the ale and how it’s made…

Damn…I gotta find some of that.

Thank you very much for the link…it makes for quite interesting reading.

I highly recommend you try the ale. Quite delicious. But, me being a poor college student, I can’t indulge that regularly. It’s rather expensive. So I’m gonna wait a few weeks before I have another. Or maybe I’ll just have another next weekend when we go again.
