Jack Thompson, enemy to gaming, has started his disciplinary proceedings. I for one, shall be glad to see the nutjob disbarred.

Has he spoken against all video games, or just the violent ones? Sorry, haven’t ever heard of him before.

He’s against violent ones, Sorta Violent ones, and “suggestive media” He just tends to focus on the violent gaming bit, and anything else he considers obscene.
Me neither, so I Googled him and read the Wiki article. It seems that he’s largely against first person shooter games, which he calls violence simulators. Looks like he pretty much blames all or most school shootings on video games.
The guy sounds like a real piece of work.
Thanks, folks. Sounds like he’s a bit of a prickly SOB, and a stickler. I have my own reservations about violent video games but – he even had a go at the one based on the Left Behind series? Sounds a bit like he woke up one day and realised he was in the wrong century.
He’s a fundie nutjob who has made it his personal crusade to protect people from material he deems unacceptable. Whenever he’s called on his behavior, he tends to climb on the cross. (You can read about him here.)
I’m a huge fan of the First Amendment and I think everyone has the right to speak freely, but his right to swing stops at my nose. It’s great that the State of Florida has decided to hold him accountable for his actions.

I have to admit, the one reason I love that Jack Thompson exists is because it allowed for the Thompson/Penny Arcade feud to happen. That was lovely…
You know, even Fred Phelps is cagey enough to avoid getting himself in serious legal trouble. Thompson ain’t even that smart. Sad, innit?
He is also the guy who started the media frenzy about 2 Live Crew and about Cop Killer. General enemy of free speech.
The disbarment proceeding isn’t about his political or moral positions. It’s about him lacking the professional standards of something a catfish would be embarrassed to shit into. He once handed a judge gay porn in an effort to discredit opposing counsel. His actions during his confrontation with the Penny Arcade people speak for themselves. Even regular ambulance-chasing slime who keep neck braces in stock are ashamed to associate with him. On the plus side, he has a card from the Florida Bar Association certifying he is sane. Very few people have one of those.
Now, the only question is “Do we beat him with dis bar or dat bar?”
