Thor: Love and Thunder

I’m in complete agreement. Taika Waititi did a fantastic job, and was himself hilarious as well. To top it off, Ragnorak ends immediately before Infinity War begins, setting you up for 6 more hours of MCU fun.

No, not too obvious.

This is too obvious.

Things were a lot simpler when the directions were printed right on the hammer…in English!

The thing about those directions is, they seem to imply that anybody could hold the hammer (“Whosoever”). Being worthy gets you the “Power of…THOR” (complete with dramatic pause!), but that power doesn’t necessarily mean holding the hammer. That was a separate clause in the sentence.

Some of the very early issues of Journey Into Mystery also implied that picking up the hammer was just a matter of being strong enough to lift it. The Destroyer was able to lift it, for example, which was a way to prove his badassity.

And I’d guess that Odin slipped in that he’d always be able to lift it. He’s no dummy.

He definitely had admin privileges.

The original Sysop from Hel

For what it’s worth, today the people behind the official Marvel Avengers video game announced Jane’s upcoming inclusion into the game, calling her Jane Foster: The Mighty Thor.

…it will introduce a new playable Hero for all platforms: Jane Foster: The Mighty Thor! Our Hero designs are driven first and foremost by their core comic book identities, so, as a fellow wielder of Mjolnir, her suite of abilities will have a lot in common with the Odinson’s, however she will also have elements that are distinctly Jane. More details on how Jane will come to life in our game will be coming in the future.

One thing in the trailer I haven’t seen mentioned much is the apparent introduction of the Greek/Roman pantheon to the MCU.

How do I feel about that?

I thought we were collectively ignoring the Eternals? It is the worst Marvel movie since Thor 2 isn’t it? It doesn’t really need to be part of the MCU, or at least Earth Prime.

That’s not an Eternal, that Hercules. Literal Hercules, in exactly the same way Thor is literal Thor.

And they’re fantastic together.

Sorry, I missed something. When was Herc introduced to the MCU?

I thought you were talking about Theena.

He hasn’t been, but there’s a scene in the trailer for the new Thor movie featuring someone who looks a heck of a lot like Zeus. In the comics, the Greek pantheon serves mostly as a supporting cast for Hercules, so if they’re bringing in the Greek pantheon, odds are good it’s to setup introducing Hercules.

Ah, I didn’t notice the Zeus-like and didn’t realize Hercules was part of Marvel.

As a rule of thumb, any character that is in the public domain exists in both the Marvel and DC universes. DC has a Thor, Marvel has a Hercules, they’ve both got Dracula and Frankenstein. Any character where they didn’t have to pay royalties or give someone a creator credit got snapped up fast.

In the books, Hercules is a semi-regular member of the Avengers. He’s usually even hammier, and even more of a “ladies’ man,” than Thor is.

However, unlike Thor, he’s not been able to carry his own book for any length of time; there have been several limited-run Hercules books, but nothing that stuck around.

Makes sense. Good rule of thumb. So out of interest, Peter Pan and friends?

Little Mermaid! Paul Bunyon! Pecos Bill!

There ought to be a law!

(Well, yeah, there is the law West of the Pecos, but still…)

Not in DC that I’m aware of, but, ironically, in the Marvel universe was actually the Eternal, Sprite:

Kinda surprised neither company tried more with Peter Pan, actually. 300 year old child returns to Earth from magical island, fights crime while learning about the real world. Sort of a Wonder Woman/Spider-Man mashup.

Little Mermaid: Marvel and DC
Paul Bunyon: Marvel and DC
Pecos Bill: Marvel, but not DC that I can find.
