Thor: Love and Thunder

I’m thinking that Zeus being included here is part of the set-up for Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. As the film’s antagonist, he’s gonna need some gods to butcher. That being said, I’m not particularly familiar with Gorr.

Probably to do with copyright status. Peter Pan wasn’t in the public domain, at least in the US, until fairly recently. Maybe the 90s? Or the 00s? And even then, it was like Sherlock Holmes (another case that showed up in Marvel Comics in 2007 - just as the early stories hit the public domain) where the copyright holders to the original work were very protective of the IP.

Likewise Pecos Bill, who didn’t hit the public domain until maybe the 90s. But at least in that case, there’s not really anybody who’s going to create much of a fuss if the character is used, especially as a background character.

I had no idea Pecos Bill was ever under copyright. I thought he was pure folklore, with no one attributable author. Looking it up, it appears that was intentional - the original author claimed they were stories cowboys told each other on the trail, but anthropologists say there’s no evidence of them existing before they were published. I wonder how that would affect the copyright?

I’d forgotten he’s the villain in this one. Bad news for my man Herc, I guess.

DC does have a Hercules if you didn’t know. He’s a Wonder Woman foe., an arrogant creep and responsible for assaulting her mom way back when. This led to Marvel’s Herc getting a Wondy punch when they met during a crossover and she asked his name. Marvel’s Herc did sleep with their Hippolyta but it was consensual.

So: she’s Fe-male?

Thor’s already picked one of those.

And rarely wears a shirt.

Under pretty much perpetual copyright in the UK, by special rule of Parliament, and “it’s complicated” for the rest of the world. They’d have to adapt the novel rather than any plays or films at this point.

If I were that ripped I might not either.

I’m one of those that didn’t care for how silly Ragnarok got, especially with the body count, but I think I’ll like Hippy Thor.

New trailer is up.

“Should we help him?”
“Eventually. Grape?”

Unlike the prior one this gives some sense of there being an actual story of some sort.

I saw the trailer before the Doctor Strange movie and am excited for this one. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

I was already sold, now I’m excited.

I wonder if they’re going to make Bale’s character a sympathetic antagonist. I hope so.

Me too, otherwise he’s just another “Grrr, I am mad about something and that is why I am killing a lot of people and not listening to any reasons why I shouldn’t I SAID I’M NOT LISTENING LA LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU” villain, and those are boring.

I think Thor 3 is the best one and one of the best Marvel movies. I’m not that pumped for this from the trailers, but mainly because I think trailers are not an easy medium to convey Taika Waititi’s movies. I can only imagine a What We Do In The Shadows* trailer that makes it look just goofy instead of as hilarious as it is.

*Jemaine Clement will be upset if I don’t point out he co-directed that movie, by the way. It wasn’t Waititi’s alone.

it does look fun.

Looks pretty enjoyable and I am sure I will see it, even if only when it comes to streaming.

But I will say that piles of women fainting after seeing Thor’s naked body is…not as funny as they think it is. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I hope the movie aspires to better jokes than that. If not, yawn.

It wasn’t just women.

Upon review, you are correct. The initial close-up shows four women, but the wider shot includes two men on the ends of the group. Still not that funny, but less misogynist.

I’d like to hope that there’s some context to it (the fainters being the muses and prone to dramatic acts or something) but I might be applying too much optimism to a basic sight gag.
