Funny side note: as I was leaving the theater from Thor a family with a group of kids were also leaving and they passed a poster for the Justice League movie.
The older kid says wisely to his younger brother: “These are the New Avengers. That comes out next week.”
The younger brother says: “It says they are the Justice League.”
The older brother says: “Yeah they are the Justice Avengers.”
My Girlfriend who only came with me to the movie to humor me and couldn’t tell Batman from Spider-man couldn’t understand why that made me start to laugh out loud. It also should trouble Warner Brother’s marketing people.
I really liked it. It isn’t quite my favourite MCU movie, but it is the best Thor movie.
I liked the fact that the trailers gave hints of what would happen, but didn’t reveal what actually happens - for example, in the trailer Hela catches Mjölnir against a background that looks more like Asgard - in the movie, the scene is quite different. It allows an element of surprise.
I also like the fact that Loki (and Thor) get to realise that Loki is nowhere near the worst of Odin’s children, not by a long shot.
And yes, I am convinced that Loki grabbed the Tesseract on his way to summon Surtur.
I certainly hope so! Zack Snyder’s vision of the DCEU needs to die a quick and painful death. Dark just isn’t fun (or interesting). And mega-dark is just for…well, I’ll leave that unsaid, since I know there are fans here. DC should stick to TV, because as a film universe they will always be an “also-ran,” and not a very good one at that. Which is a shame, because I was always a DC geek growing up. But they’ve sucked all the fun right out of that lollipop.
Definitely! In the trailer scene which showed Thor on Bifrost, covered with lightning, they cleverly showed both of his eyes glowing with blue light. When that shot appeared in the actual film, Thor had already lost his right eye, and only his left eye glowed.
Lots of great one off lines, but I think my favorite was
As an aside, I was (pleasantly) surprised Hopkins was in the movie (especially as much as he was) - my understanding was that he was tired of the role and very happy to have been apparently killed off at the end of the last one.
The trailers showed the hammer breakingin the New York portion. It’s shown in a graffiti-ed alley way. “Skux Life” is seen scrawled in the background.
I even saw set photos of Odin looking like a homeless man… I’m not sure if that was originally scripted or if it was a purposeful misdirect like the glowing eyes.
I thought it was one of the more fun Marvel movies I’ve seen. It’s one of the few that I wouldn’t mind watching again. I liked the Cumberbatch cameo, myself.
Whoever said it upthread, I agree. I never looked twice at Thor with the long hair. After he got it cut, hoo baby.
I thought it was a fun film. But taken with Guardians of the Galaxy, it kind of paints this picture of the universe outside of Earth being kind of a weirdly zany, slap-sticky place IMHO.
Odin’s last scene and Hela’s first scene was originally scripted in a NY alleyway close behind the demolished nursing home referenced in the film, but when Dr Strange did fairly well they decided to add in his bit, which means that whole ‘family reunion’ scene was retroactively green-screened and ‘pick-upped’ into Norway. I think that also allowed for a few more ‘Odin gives his counsel’ scenes than were originally planned.
