Thor : the Dark World (spoilers are boxed)

I thought it was decent, though I think it’s probably the weakest of the Avengers movie line. One thing that disappointed me was that they didn’t even make any effort on their technobabble this time. In the first Thor, it was clear that they had a science advisor, and paid attention to him, even though there’s only so far you can go in accommodating science in a movie like that. Here, though, it was just random sciency-sounding words that didn’t bear any relation whatsoever to what the characters were talking about.

Also, did it seem to anyone else that the Kursed effects were reminiscent of the Extremis effects from Iron Man 3? Is there a real connection there, or have the SFX guys just gotten themselves enamored with a new toy?

Also also, was the Cosmic Cube canonically one of the Infinity Gems in the comic books?

Nope, the Gems were five gems about the size of the last joint of your thumb, each a different color.

Not even close. The first Thor and Iron Man 2 were worse.

I thought everybody but me was supposed to hate the Hulk movie? I must have missed an email… gotta check my spam folder.

I haven’t seen the Hulk movies. But I personally felt Captain America was the weakest of the series. So it doesn’t look like there’s any consensus.

Saw it over the weekend. Not as good as *Captain America *, but still a fun popcorn movie.

I thought Captain America with the second best behind the Avengers.

Blessed may sound like one - I guess we could go with Morgan Freeman…to bad George is gone…

Six. Mind, Power, Soul, Time, Space and Reality

Don’t forget Bashful.

I honestly don’t know who you’re referring to with “George,” and so can’t help but imagine all sorts of folks in the role: George Peppard as a Viking god? George Harrison brawling in plate armor? George C. Scott up in the clouds?

Plotwise, the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Gems serve the same function, so the filmmakers combined two MacGuffins into one.

Yeah, I figured as much. Filmmakers need to worry about conservation of exposition to a much greater degree than do comic book writers.

And The Other Waldo Pepper, when one’s discussing actors who could play a god, there’s only one “George” they could be referring to.

We can rule out George Foreman - he named his kids Thor and Loki.

It really Burns me up that you don’t know

I agree, but Takei is still alive and well.

George Burns.

I really wasn’t expecting to like it very much but my husband couldn’t live without seeing it on the big screen - I thought it was a scream. (Although, while fun, any scene without both Thor and Loki in it was only half as much fun. Missed opportunities, filmmakers.)

Granted, it was a big mess. But I really thought they managed to shoot and edit a really confusing concept (the portals) in such a way that it made total sense and really worked on screen. That isn’t necessarily easy to do.

Also you know I loved the Cap cameo. You know how I feel about him.

Are you saying an actor was swapped in Thor 2? Who was changed?

Robin Hood.
