Thoughts from watching "Angel" - Season Five (Fred and Wes-related)

[QUOTE=pepperlandgirl]
It wouldn’t be the “second or third episode” she was in, because those were still Pylea episodes. She was still hiding in her room and eating tacos they sent up to her in the first episode of S3 (when Angel returned from his vacation in Tibet). In That Vision Thing, which was the 2nd ep of S3, she was still doing a pretty good job of hiding in her room and under tables. There also wasn’t any hint of her cluing in during That Ol’ Gang of Mine (though there was a very hot scene where Wesley told Gunn not to lie to him again or he’d fire his ass. I love it when Wesley takes charge). In fact, she still was crushing pretty hard on Angel until the the fourth episode of S3, which would have been her sixth episode. And she was still hiding in her room and not really interacting too much with the group. In one episode, and I can’t remember which one, she implies she thinks of Wesley as a brother.

The first time Wesley’s crush is explictly referred to is at the beginning of Billy, when Cordelia caught on, but assured him that nobody else noticed. In Waiting in the Wings, there’s an exchange where Cordelia tells Fred that Wes is perfect for her—and Fred automatically assumed Cordy was referring to Gunn.

Wesley did start crying at the end of Billy and she heard him and stopped in the hallway. I think his reaction to what happened, especially when he apologized, could hint that he had strong feelings for her, but I don’t think she really clued in. Wesley is a good guy. If he had brutally attacked Cordelia, I’m pretty sure he would have hid in his apartment and cried then, too.

Okay, you’ve thrown down the gauntlet. :slight_smile: I’m sure I saw a hint somewhere around here - I have to go see if I can find it now.

ETA: I’m having some luck with transferring all my boy crushes from “Angel” to “Supernatural” - have you tried that?

I watched an episode of Supernatural. The story line of the ep seemed to be lifted completely from The X-Files (the episode with Luke Wilson) and there was a black vampire hunter who hunted vampires because his sister was killed by one. I liked it better when that character was called Gunn. Since it just reminded me of shows I’d rather be watching instead (The X-Files and Angel) I figured I would, in fact, just watch those shows instead.

But everybody seems to really dig Supernatural, so I’m considering giving it another chance.

ETA: There could very well be a hint from Fred that she knows that I simply don’t remember. I haven’t watched the beginning of S3 for a long time. But I have gone to bat for Fred before because I feel she’s unfairly maligned by some people. That’s why I even pounced on this. personally, I “ship” Wesley with everybody. Wes/Fred, Wes/Lilah, Wes/Faith, Wes/Angel, Wes/Faith/Angel, Wes/Cordy, Wes/Cordy/Angel…my point is, I feel everybody should love Wes.

I’ve been re-watching the series lately, and am halfway through season three. At this point, it’s clear Wes is interested in Fred, but it’s still very much “interested” and not “True and Eternal Love.” And Gunn is just as interested as Wes is. The last few episodes I’ve seen (“Provider” and “Birthday,” in particular) had a running gag of Wes and Gunn mirroring each other in their reactions to Fred. There’s no narrative edge given to either of their suits at this point, and Fred seems completely unaware of their intentions.

I’m still watching to try to find what I thought I saw a few months ago - it was very brief, but it looked to me like Fred knew pretty conclusively that Wes had feelings for her. I seem to recall it was right around when she started dating Gunn - stupid holey memory. It would have been right around where you are in Season 3, Miller - maybe around the episode where they all go to the ballet?

Does wanting to find this moment in a tv show that isn’t even on any more make me a geek? :smiley:

That would be Waiting in the Wings, and I’m really, really sure that she only had eyes for Gunn in that episode. Cordelia tried to hint that it was Wesley, and it never even occurred to Fred that she could be talking about Wes.
Well, I’m arguing about whether this moment even exists, so I guess I’m the uber-geek.

That’s the next ep I’m watching, probably tonight, so I’ll keep an eye out and report back.

Okay, I found the moment I think I was talking about - at about 18:30 in “Loyalty” (Episode 15, Season 3), Gunn tells Fred, “C’mon, you knew Wes was interested in you” to paraphrase. I thought it was Fred saying something, but she definitely knew of Wes’ interest at this point (being told about it flat-out). Now, what was the point about this that I was trying to make again? :smiley:

(“Waiting in the Wings” is a very cool episode. I loved that show, man.)
