Thread for Discussion of Political Ramifications of Trump Injury from Shooting at the Butler, PA Rally

I see no way this will help Trump win. Do the people saying this just go him elected believe Democrats will switch parties over this and vote for DJT? Why would any independent or undecided voter do the same? Or women who care about bodily autonomy, etc. etc.

Maybe he gets a small bump in the polls but I don’t really see how that will be quantifiable. The Republican Convention starts in 2 days and it is completely normal for a candidate to get a post convention “bounce”. It will be very difficult to separate the effect of the two events from each other. Plus, I suspect this event will cause the hateful GQP rhetoric at the convention to go into overdrive and potentially turnoff voters.

We will know soon enough I suppose.

I think it will help with GOP voter turnout. It proves the dems must be stopped. They will try to kill you.

Given recent very close elections turnout is where it is at.

This is why assassination is, not merely wrong, but counter-productive. Yeah, there is that old saying that if you strike at the king make sure you kill him, but even if this had gone off as the shooter hoped, the Rs have their convention next week. trump’s delegates would settle on some other MAGA type, who would then campaign on winning it for the trumper.

Welp. Lesson lernt. Even if its a four year bet.

Trump’s cult of personality does not seem to transfer well to anyone else.

If Trump were gone there’d be almighty chaos at the convention as various factions fought over being the next nominee.

Why would an undecided be undecided? There’s a massive difference between the candidates and a powerful image is as good as anything that’s not already in the cards to push you one way or the other. Plus, looks at Bush’s approval increase after failing to stop 9/11. The country loves to rally around patriotic sentiment.

Now, it’s also possible this causes Trump to say more and more crazy shit. So it might hurt him in the long run, but I think smart money is on it boosting him.

Yeah. Also, I hope to God it’s a US-born white guy.

People around here seem to assume that the Average Voter makes all of their electoral decisions based on cool pictures and 2-second soundbites for which they possess an eidetic memory even though they’re somehow otherwise completely unaware of the candidate’s beliefs and positions. I don’t get it.

A lot of people are saying he had a mini-stroke when he got shot. And I hear that the sound of bullets gives you cancer.

My man on the inside sent me a pic of a skinny, white young guy with scraggly hair who looks like he could barely grow a beard.

Edit: And by inside i mean…he just has his ear to the ground a lot more then me

One aspect that occurs to me is that this is going to put a lot more pressure on Trump’s VP choice. I think people have become complacent with Vice Presidents and generally don’t consider them as potential Presidents. But this shooting means voters are going to be giving serious thought to the possibility of Trump’s VP becoming President. That’s going to hurt him if he chooses somebody like Marjorie Taylor Greene. People who might be willing (or even eager) to see President Trump back in office might have doubts about having President Greene in power.

The obvious countermove would be for Trump to name choose somebody generally acceptable as his running mate. Somebody like DeSantis or Rubio. But I feel Trump will resist that; he won’t want somebody whose stature rivals his own and who has his own power base. He wants a VP who is clearly subordinate to him.

Not on the short list.

I was hoping Tulsi was the VP pick…and then if in two years Tulsi Gabbard became the first female, POC president of the USA…Id laugh and laugh and laugh.

I know you’re being facetious here but Trump is going to have to deal with trauma from this incident and I really do not think he is prepared for it mentally. I feel like this is going to manifest physically and Trump’s health will go downhill a lot faster than it otherwise would have.

Ways this whole thing could become crazier:

  • This was staged, but Trump knew nothing about it. It was an actual rogue member of his inner circle who cared more about the ideals than the man delivering them.
  • This IS the Biden test case to the Supreme Court everyone’s been insisting he implement.

Ooh, I’ll add another one: it was an alien shapeshifter! The shooter was mind-controlled by an Illithid!

Ok, color me dense, tired, or just stupid, but would you explain this one, please?

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to expand the Presidential power of immunity has led to many suggestions that Biden ought to take advantage of this and send SEAL Team 6 after Trump right now.

Of course, we know this isn’t the case here because SEAL Team 6 wouldn’t miss.

“One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.”

Ok, I get that.

Newt Gingrich blames Biden, says ‘there will be fewer “never-Trumpers” tomorrow morning’

He blamed Biden’s recent rhetoric for encouraging such attacks. “If you read what Biden has said for the past few months, it was an invitation,” Gingrich said.
