Three Cheers for Satan!

I just had to start this thread in support of our pal, Satan, who’s been so public about quitting smoking. I don’t know him, other than through his many excellent and witty posts, but I felt I wanted to let him know that I hope he succeeds in kicking the habit. Plus, it’s just fun to start a psuedo-Satan worshipping thread.

Go, Satan, go!

“Go, Satan, go!” [mental image of Satanic Cheerleaders]

I recall two or three others who said they were quitting at the same time—any updates from them?

UncleBeer is still smoke-free. I think today is day #43.

Still a former smoker. It’s been pretty easy for me because I had just fallen off the wagon a couple months ago – after quitting for two years. I haven’t been a smoker (this time around) for very long.

I seem to remember someone saying something about cheerleader pictures in the Quitting Smoking Diary thread. Haven’t seen them yet.

Just thinking about SDMB females in cheerleader outfits . . . mmm . . .

Um, I have to go to the bathroom now

Kick that demon nicotine’s ass Satan.

One of the few to be personally welcomed to this board by Ed Zotti.

Yours truly,

Dear Satan,

I am thoroughly impressed by your devotion to the task you have at hand; quitting smoking. The tenacity with which you cling to your goal is commendable.

I was doing my very best to emulate you, downloading the silkquit meter, going on the patch, until this very morning, when I realized the atrocity of my thread from late last night while drunk.

I have fallen, but with your gentle encouragement, your humble words of wisdom, and the occasional pointy end of the pitchfork as a motivator, I shall crawl back on that wagon yet again!

Thank you,

Brian

P.S. Can I have a taco?

From what I’ve heard, smoking is a real devil.

congrats and best wishes to all the SDMB Quitters!

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

I read this just this morning, in a reissued 1867 novel written by a Civil War veteran:

“Our men are not heroes in battle alone. Three months without shelter, drenched by rain or scorched by the sun, tormented by mosquitoes, tainted with fever, shaking with the ague, they appear stoically indifferent to all hardships but their lack of tobacco.”

Not addictive, my eye!

By the way, the book is John DeForest’s snappily-titled “Miss Ravenel’s Conversion from Secession to Loyalty,” and is a corking good read.

Keep up the struggle. If you fall off the wagon, hop right back on. It’s worth the effort.

Good luck to all.

Aw, shucks. Thanks, guys…

I stopped posting to the Diary because it reached the point where I was the only one doing the posting, and besides, I have my stats in every post I do anyway. A constant reminder of my task at hand!

I know I could do this, more than ever before, because eben if I was going to let myself down, and even if I was going to let Drain bead down, I would hve a lot of trouble answering to everyone here whom I would let down!

Yer pal,
Satan

That John Denver’s full of shit man!

Keep up the great work everybody!!!
I quit off and on. Sorry I have one seriously bad habit! I know I could, but my husband doesn’t want to and that makes it a bit harder.
Quit for a year once, and then my son was in the hospital near death. I have no idea why, but I went out and had a smoke. It wasn’t until we got him home that I realized what I had done.
Keep it up guys your are all stronger people than me!

Hey, BTW, can I be a cheerleader too??? Please?! I promise to behave myself! Those short skirts and all you know…

I’m glad, too, that you are wrasslin’ the nicotine demon victoriously, but I still don’t think I’m gonna say the name of this thread aloud.
