I’m still waiting for someone to come in extolling the virtues of lubricating the skin with some uncooked bacon and then shaving with a sharp rock.
Every method will have its adherents.

Yep. And the straight razor people… They will probably be along shortly to brag how close to death every shave brings them.
Don’t be ridiculous. Every one knows the best way to shave is with olive oil and a carbide-tip marble chisel.
I haven’t tried the M3 Power yet, but I can definitely tell the difference between the Mach 3 and the Mach 3 Turbo. I don’t know if I’ll try the Power, but I am curious as to whether or not it actually makes a difference.
Oooh! Oooh! Will the replacement blades cost as much as a full tank of gas?
Because if so, I’m in.
Actually, the blades aren’t a bad deal. Mach 3 blades are relatively expensive, but seem to last a bit longer than other blades.
My dad can actually shave for a month on one Mach 3 blade. Me, I get a week, but that’s because I really like the feel of a nice fresh blade.
The new razor will work with any Mach 3 blade.
I’ll probably put it on the “If you want to buy me something” list for the wife. I swear by the Mach3, because like Beelzebubba I shave my head as well as my face. Mach3 cartridges are pricey, but I generally get two weeks out of one.
Besides, I like useless toys!
I bought a M3 today at Wally World. I will report my results tomorrow.
I bought the M3 at Costco yesterday and gave it a try this morning. I can report that this is the closest shave I have ever experienced. Not only was it the closest, but I didn’t have to press down as hard to get the tricky parts. I was a little worried at first about cutting myself (with it vibrating and all), but once I started shaving I didn’t come close to doing so. The one odd thing is having the razor vibrate in my hand, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this new razor. IMO, it is definitely a closer shave and not just a marketing gimmick.
I just tried the Power M3 myself. I’m quite pleased with it.
It’s a very, very close shave, with little effort. The blade seems to massage the beard off.
I use the Exchange Select brand of the Mach 3. The replacement blades are about half the price of the Mach 3’s, and they last just as long.
I don’t need no stinkin’ vibrating blades. The Crest Spin-Brush, however, was worth it.
A Google search reveals quite a few articles and webpages referring to this SNL sketch. This Slate article, for example.
I did two searches:
saturday night live “because you’ll believe anything”…39 hits
saturday night live “because you’ll buy anything”…12 hits
Not conclusive; just suggestive. None of the links offered definitive evidence from the original sketch.
I’ve used mine for 3 days now and I am very pleased. Very close, very easy not nicks, what’s not to like?
Well, I’ve been using a Mach 3 since they first came out (5 years?), and it does everything I need it to. I can’t imagine how its vibrating will help at all, since it already works perfectly.
I’ve got to say that I’m kind of sympathetic for Schick and Gilette’s marketing divisions, having to come up with some way to distinguish a product that does everything it’s supposed to do.
The interesting thing is, Gillette is Luddite-friendly, SolGrundy.
They fully support their older lines.
Before the Mach 3 line, there was Sensor, introduced in 1989. You can still buy Sensor blades.
Before that, there was the Atra razor, introduced in 1977. Atra blades are still readily available.
Before that, there was the Trac II, the first twin blade razor. Gillette brought this out in 1971, and still sells Trac II razors and blades.
If computer companies supported their lines so well, you could still buy software for your UNIVAC.
I’ve been trying to search out the post about the 10-blade razor. I thought is was Lobsang that posted it.
Can anyone find it? It’s very funny, and really should be repeated here!
I shave my head, and swear by my Mach 3. If you try the vibrating one (that’s how I think of it… hmmmm… just how powerful are those mini-pulses? plausible deniability – easier to pack than a vibrator?) and report back, I’ll be eager to know what you think.
Duh… just finished reading down the thread. I might have to go shopping this afternoon.
