Why are you insulting the victim of an attempted home invasion? The gentleman defended his home against bat-wielding thugs. Kudos to him, and I hope the criminals that attacked him get the maximum possible sentence.

I’m glad he kept a cool head and didn’t fire on the retreating third perp. Not that the perp wouldn’t have deserved it, but this way it’s a clear case of self/home-defense, not murder or attempted murder.
If there was ever a stronger argument against aluminum bats, I don’t know what it is. Ash would have put the old guy down. Aluminum just pissed him off.
From the pic in the linked article that guy definitely looks fairly tough for a 72 year old man.
All in all I think the teenagers are extremely lucky. They’ll do some time in prison but they left a shooting without being dead, and without killing anyone. It’s unlikely they’ll improve themselves, but they at least can expect a release a few years down the road. That situation could have turned out a lot worse for both sides.
Probably more than a few years. I’ve heard that trespassing/Home Invasion in Florida is a huge offense because of the large population o’ geezers.

Yeah, having our homes invaded by armed thugs is no big deal for the rest of us.
I think the premise is, the rest of us are busy watching American Idol or working late while the old geezers are queued up at the voting booths voting for tougher home-invasion ballot referenda. Supposedly they’re obsessing about it, thus the (theoretically) tougher laws.
Great, now I’m picturing a parallel society that’s engaged in a giant real life role playing game. The guy with the bat was a 5th-level punk who rolled a critical fumble despite winning the initiative. The other two were just power-leveling noobs.
Good thing nothing like that could exist in real life, eh?
