Three's Company porny pilot intro

After the death of Suzanne Somers the pilot intro of Three’s Company have been posted on the internet.

And it’s hilarious! It comes across like the porn parody of the show. Especially the lyricless theme.

The UK show it’s based on, Man About The House, has an opening that is more like something out of Benny Hill.

Looks odd now, but that was fairly standard for the time.

What’s so porny about it?
Second version.

This follows the second pilot on YouTube:

I thought the name “Patricia McCormack” sounded familiar, so I looked her up:

The Bad Seed and The Sopranos. Cool!

Have you never watched a porn parody of a sitcom? This comes across just like one and certainly not like the intro they finally used. If you read the comments on that video you’ll see I’m not the only one who thinks so.

I read a bunch of the comments just now and didn’t see a single one that thinks this is a ‘porny’ video. It’s just fans of the show talking about how weird it is to see a different opening, and how it’s good that they changed actors after the pilot.

Possible I read the comments on a different video posting than the one I linked to.

Never watched porn parody of a sitcom.
This didn’t seem porny to me. Looked cheaply made.
I don’t get a sketchy porn vibe at all.

These days porn seem like a procedural show, with an occasional documentary.

Compared to the actual intro the show used the pilot intros look very sophomoric.
Which is how porn parodies come across as well. BTW, there are some Threes Company porn parodies out there and the intros do look like this. Which is why I find the pilot intro funny.

I’ll take your word for it.

I like this version-- it’s much more surreal than the others. A comment in the YT link mentioned how their smiles turn awkward, but it’s more than that- each one goes from a smile to a forced rictus of existential anguish and despair over the several seconds the camera maintains the close-up. It’s like a Mr. Show parody or something.

BTW, I had no idea the series went through at least two iterations of actors / intros before they settled on the final one.

A fairly common occurrence. Bud and Kelly Bundy were played by two different kids in the pilot for Married … with Children.

And are any of us surprised? I get the feeling that you may have heard someone describe something bordering on PG-13 secondhand as the closest you’ve ever come to ‘Porn’.

I guess the opening riff has a kind of “bow chika wow wow” vibe, but otherwise I’m not getting it. Then again, I don’t have the context that the OP does. I’ve only seen non-porn versions of sitcoms.

You haven’t lived until you’ve seen the porn version of Leave it To Beaver.
You never wondered why Ms. Billingsley always wore a pearl necklace?

Yeah, I know one person who loves to describe their viewing habits.

Bigfoot? Appliance Repairman?

It’s definitely the music. Not so much the fact that it has no lyrics, but that the melody is this absolutely sarcastic-sounding, semi-a cappella nonsense that even in the 1970s nobody would have taken seriously.
