Thwap biscuits

I like to make sausage gravy once in a while, so maybe making both biscuits & gravy from scratch is a bit of a stretch. The thwap biscuits are pretty easy, but the el-cheapo “store brand” made with golly knows what from golly knows where ingredients were especially sketchy. Industrial oils are hard on the ole gut, is my experience.

I grew up eating thwap biscuits, both name brand (the one with the spokesdoughboy) and off-brand. We probably had them three times a month, usually with Saturday or Sunday breakfast. I was probably 11 or 12 years old when I realized you could make biscuits from scratch, or even a mix. Haven’t had them in probably 30 years, though. I may have to buy some on my next shopping trip.

Canned biscuits are NOT homemade bicuits. It’s a different beast.

Bisquick is just the stuff already in. You pay for convenience, there. A slightly metallic tastes bugs me.

Gimme 10 minutes and I can mix you some biscuits that will be 10 times better.

We all have particulars. Sure, I’d rather have our old cooks biscuits. She’s dead. I’d love to have my Granny’s, on a cool Saturday morning. She’s dead. Even Daddy was a fair hand at biscuits. He’s dead.

I have to eat 6 smallish meals a day. I’m passed mixing biscuits at 5am. So it’s gonna be a convenient food source. I generally have overnight oats or banana and a protein bar. Not really fond of cold cereal.

I had extra time this morning. I debated whether to do some mixing or thwap a can. Can won.

Boy oh boy, I was disappointed.

So, everyone who had biscuits at your place is dead? I’d inspect those ingredients, kiddo.

The first thing that came to mind upon reading this was these:

The second thing was: Why would someone want to bash them against a counter, unless they had a liking for crumbs? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh, you Brits!: “What’s for tea, darling?”

Guilty by association.

That usually means insufficient rise in the dough, usually because they were stored too cold (possibly before you bought them).
Also possibly due to over-cooking.

Still, homemade ones are nearly always better.

I thought you meant axe-handle biscuits. Dang they were good; my Grandmother (step, really, but who’s counting?) used to make them when she was mad about something. I believe this may be the first time I’ve looked for a recipe on youtube and not found it. Hmph.

But the best darn thing about Grandma’s house was…

… the luxury lifestyle due to Grandpa’s featherbedding railroad job.

Well, now you’ve turned it into an Arlo Guthrie tune. Sorry about that, Jim Connor.
