Recently, I made a simple model of a TIE Interceptor and an X-Wing for my OpenGL class, and it reminded me of the good old days of TIE Fighter, with it’s awesome music. Now, I’ve searched for the music, and sure, I got the main midi files (that play during cutscenes and when you’re in the “menus”), and they’re great to listen to. I was happy.
But, sadly, one thing that made TIE Fighter music great also made some of it impossible to find on the internet. I’m talking about the in-flight music, the iMuse stuff, the music that was constantly changing to reflect the what was going on. To those who don’t know, the in-flight music is basically a ton of different musical clips that the music engine strings together to create a seamless, dynamic score.
So, my question is, is there a nice long midi file of some random medley of in-flight music somewhere? I’d love to have it. And, if not, I do have all 141 clips of the in-flight music (they’re around 5-20 seconds apiece). Is there someone here who is familiar with the music and has experience with joining midi files together?
Not an answer but a hijack… (sorry)
Did you happen to find the music for Pinball Dreams 1 and 2 while you were looking for the tie fighter music?
Does any other doper know how/where to get that music?
Does anyone know where I can get a (possibly free) copy of the game Flashback to play on my windows XP machine?
Sometimes (or in the past at least) computer game music writers seem more talented than any other! (maybe it is the demand to create a score that fits the mood of the game)
I’m sure a Google search will pop up a bunch of what you’re looking for, Lobsang. Game MIDIs are generally decently easy to find.
I don’t know if any Flashback version that you download would be legal, though.
You could always try http://www.vgmusic.com. Chances are if it’s not there, it’s not anywhere.
I’m pretty sure it’s not anywhere. I did a lot of searching for it, and I always get the same bunch of midis.
What would also help is if someone knew an easy way to join two midi files together.
Ask the boards at http://theforce.net
I can guarantee someone has it, or knows where you can get it.
I have several incarnations of TIE Fighter, quite possibly one of the single best computer games EVER (long after its release, it was a fixture on PC Gamer’s all-time best lists). I was so mad that when it made the jump to the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter engine, they bumped up the music to CD quality, but lost the MIDI mixing that the old game did with iMuse.
