TIL about Susan Tedeschi

Where the hell have I been!?

Man, this woman can sing. Check out her John Sebastion cover: Darling Be Home Soon

And she can play. Chunking it up at Live at Farm Aid. (solo starts around 2:20)

And finally, on stage with Joe Ely, Jeff Bridges and many others. Great performance!

Her husband’s a decent musician, too.

Aye; they’re both kind of new but they’ve got some talent.

Not only does Susan Tedeschi kick major ass on the guitar, she sings with a level of genuine blues soul that you just don’t see every day. Add Derek Trucks to the mix and you’ve got flat out music majesty. Derek has been kicking ass since he was a kid. Growing up surrounded by Allman people, he’s certainly absorbed the real thing.
Here’s a wee lad Derek Trucks:

Derek was only 10 or 11 years old when I met him at Pegasus Studios, his uncle’s place in Midway, FL. Super-talented, really nice kid.

Really great to see that he went for “musician” over “rock star”. I don’t think he’d have done as well as a rock star, not for as long anyway.

Tedeschi ***rocks ***with the best of 'em. The one true acolyte of the supernal Bonnie Raitt.

Aye; they both totally fucking rock. But they aren’t rock stars.

Been a fan of both for years, I don’t think of them as newbs.

That was a tongue-in-cheek jab at Lucas; if it wasn’t obvious in post I would have thought my subsequent post would have clarified that. Sorry for causing confusion, eh.

(2005 Farm Aid redacted)

Drinking a little tonight, not picking up on the sub·tle·ties, sorry!

Oh he’ll no, been following maybe 10 years. Blues.

I first got hip to her via guitar magazines back in the day. I bought her album Just Won’t Burn back in 1998.

Oh I got it. Your chide was apparent but I didn’t really understand the need. My OP was titled ‘today I learned’ followed up with “where the hell have I been?” I thought that should have made it obvious I understand that she isn’t new, only new to me.

That and I linked to a performance from 1999.

Nice! Thanks for the link.

Just having some fun. You know: mirth.

Things seemed pretty light-hearted, starting with your humorously self-deprecating post so I thought I’d (try and) continue in a similar vein.

Been a fan since day one, but she seems to be tapering off ever since. But, hey. Still great stuff.

No worries, I wasn’t offended at all. I got your intent.

She is great

I watched Derek do the heavy lifting for Clapton in concert some years ago. Got hooked then, then Tedeschi/Trucks on the Blues Cruise and then a triple bill, Robert Cray, B.B and Tedeschi/Trucks, a marathon concert I could see everyday. Love to see them with Bonamassa
