Julian Edelman had never played a down as wide receiver before he joined the Patriots. In his book, he talks about being recruited out of college to play quarterback in Canada, but really wanting to be in the NFL, and realizing that he would never make it as a QB there. He was drafted as a punt returner/special-teams/possible spare QB, but spent all his time before arriving at the camp training with a wide receiver coach.
The Patriots love those flexible types. If Tebow had been willing 10 years ago to play another position, they may well have taken him.
But I don’t see Belichick being all that interested in what would essentially amount to a 34 year old rookie TE/WR/whatever reclamation project requiring hundreds of hours of training to maybe get to a playable state.
I guess? But it seems he could make more money and exposure doing the TV thing. He’s probably been released early enough he could get his gig back at ESPN/SEC Network.
ETA: Or maybe that was a joke and I took it a little too literally.
I’m neither a fan nor a hater as far as Tebow is concerned, but based on what I’ve seen, he could be someone who might very possibly have a knack for coaching in some capacity.
Or better yet, be some team’s chaplain. Apparently most teams have them, and Tebow would probably be tailor-made for the role- sincere faith, fairly deep understanding of the game and what challenges players face, both playing, being cut, and pressure to perform/media scrutiny.
You may well be right. I suspect that visibility and making sure he has a “bully pulpit” for witnessing (and making money, too) is part of Tebow’s strategy; while he could be a good fit as a team’s chaplain or position coach, those sorts of roles would be low-visibilty and low-profitability.
Maybe he and Herschel Walker could form their own caucus in the Senate.
But assuming Tebow is looking to run in Florida, the Senate seats are pretty locked up for foreseeable future. Maybe he can run for FL Governor when DeSantis gets elected President in three years.
I think Tebow wanted to play football, and Meyer clearly loves the guy and wanted to give him a shot. Tebow was in way, way over his head and Meyer put this experiment to bed early, as it would have been embarrassing to keep him. Very little harm, no foul.
I agree with your disagreement. The few interviews I’ve seen with him make it clear that he buys his own story…with faith in the Lord, I can make this happen, etc
Antwaan Randle-El was drafted in the second round by Pittsburgh. He played quarterback while he was at Indiana, and was a wide receiver/punt returner/kick returner while in the NFL. He would occasionally line-up as a QB, but mostly on trick/gadget plays.
While he was last a QB in high school (in Bothell, WA no less; I used to work in Bothell for a number of years) he still has those skills and is infamous for using them in trick plays as a punter for the LA Rams. (The SOB has been a passer against the Seahawks with far too much success, grr!)
Zack Miller played QB in college up until the Division II All-Star Game where he switched to tight end. In the NFL, he played pretty well as a TE until tearing his popliteal artery in a game. Recently, he released a country song, so maybe Tebow could follow Miller’s footsteps. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Just popping into this thread because I’m listening to the live stream of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc races, and right now Thibault Baronian and Thibault Garrivier are battling for the lead in the CCC. Every time the commentators say their names, I have a brief thought: “Tim Tebow runs ultras?!”
