Tim Tebow..

Did you know - and I’m just throwing this out there - that you call people insane or stupid in just about every thread, and that more often than not you aren’t even responding to anything that has actually been posted? I mean, I don’t particularly care but it sure does make it feel like a waste of time to talk about anything you might be interested in responding to.

Anyway, the first three google results for ‘Tebow 40 time’ give a low result of 4.6-something, and as far as the size thing goes, it isn’t that hard to figure out what I was saying.

Yes, let’s blame the puffery. That’ll answer the debate. Heaven forbid a sports thread gets a little lively. Nevermind the fact that your said:

I cited two recently drafted TE who are substantially taller and heavier than Tebow. At 6’3" and 245 lbs he’d be dramatically smaller than the average TE, perhaps the smallest in the league. I understood what you are saying. It’s simply wrong.

Supposing the speed question gets answered and he hits 4.60 on the gun, putting him solidly in the middle of the pack for TEs, the fact remains that he’s a) never caught passes, b) never run routes, c) never blocked anyone, d) is dramatically shorter than most all TEs, e) is lighter than most all TEs. So, forgive me for pointing out that it defies logic to project him as a TE with any degree of confidence. There’s no data supporting it whatsoever.

Would you like a Coke?

I’m curious- does Tebow LOOK like he sits around on his butt waiting for Jesus to give him big muscles? Or like a guy who spends a lot of time in the weight room?

He also graduated from the University of Florida on time, and had a 3.66 grade point average. Does that sound like a guy who twiddles his thumbs and expects Jesus to help him pass his courses? Or like a guy who buckles down and STUDIES?

Even now, is he acting like a guy who expects Jesus to make him the #1 overall draft choice? Or is he working hard to change his style, KNOWING his old way of doing things won’t cut in in the pros?

You don’t have to like Tebow or Christians in general, but you MIGHT want to give him a teeny bit of credit for hard work and initiative. He has never expected Jesus to hand him anythign on a silver platter.

Hmm, wonder why Jesus keeps getting all the credit.

It may too soon to tell, but what about Julian Edelman? He looks good to me, and us Pats fans have high hopes for him especially if Welker’s injury doesn’t heal well.

See post 16.

From Wiki:

Edelman looks quite good, but he doesn’t really apply to the OP.

  1. Jon Gruden and Tony Dungy both think Tebow is the best quarterback prospect in the 2010 draft class.

  2. Gruden and Dungy both got fired by the Buccaneers because they couldn’t draft or sign a long-term solution at quarterback, so there is that.

  3. Speed is massively overrated by draft analysts. The average NFL receiver runs a mid-4.5s 40. Tebow is certainly fast enough to play tight end and is going to be much better with the ball in his hands than any NFL tight end.

  4. Tebow has said that while he wants to be drafted as a quarterback he’d be happy to switch positions if it doesn’t work out. Obviously he’s not an ideal draft choice for a team with a need at quarterback, but for a contender like Indianapolis he’d be a superb choice.

Tee Martin isn’t exactly doing badly for himself now that he’s the WR coach for my Kentucky Wildcats.

Tebow isn’t going to make it as an NFL QB unless, as others have pointed out, he manages to get into a position where he can be an understudy for someone for 3-4 years while the coaching staff rebuilds him. They have the technology.

At what round?

Anywhere from the tail end of the first round to the last. His value is boosted somewhat by the fact that in Florida he’ll undoubtedly put more butts in seats than any other rookie, even riding the pine.

In the specific case of Indianapolis, he’d be an upgrade over Curtis Painter no matter how bad he is…

Might I remind you of your track record?

In addition to that thing, I have also made several remarkably prescient draft predictions.

I think the sarcasm was directed at the attitude of his christian fans, not him.

Why do you believe this?

And Tebow won’t be “doing badly for himself” is he has to do something for a living besides playing quarterback in the NFL.

I meant absolutely NO disrespect to Tee Martin or any of the other quarterbacks I mentioned. Martin had no hope of making it as an NFL quarterback, but he managed to win a national championship, something Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Troy Aikman, John Elway and Tom Brady never accomplished. He has every right to be proud of himself, as does Tebow.

Because he was the primary ballcarrier for the best team in college football for three years?

4.72 40-yard, 6’3", 236 lbs. That makes him the smallest and slowest TE at the Combine.

I don’t think Jimmy ever honestly believed that Tebow has legitimate TE size. Note how instead of defending the position he deflected by attacking you personally.

EDIT: Then again, Dustin Keller isn’t all that much bigger, so maybe he did and maybe he’s right.

So? Jason Witten and Brandon Pettgrew are still better with the ball than he is, and can actually catch and block.

They’re better with the ball than he is based on what?
