Huh? She’s perfect! Maybe not tall enough, but PJ can fix that.
Oops, I think I may have misread your post, mg.
If you don’t like action, you will hate the third movie!
It’s been awhile since I read it but I remember huge battles.
Jaw dropping is a good thing, Munch. In the case of Eowyn, it’s a very, very good thing. Holy crap, that girl is hot!
I’m even more excited than before just from reading that spoiler-filled article. I have my FOTR:EE movie ticket at home and I’m beginning a re-read, the first in several years, of The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings.
I’ve got Tolkien fever baby!!! :smack:
</tongue out of cheek>
Oh, there’s a book?
Next you’ll be telling me that The Two Towers hasn’t got a thing to do with 9/11.
<tongue out of cheek>
Meant as a question more than as an argument:
I agree that he was troubled - and I can’t help but think that he found a marginally “fair-spoken” way of telling Eowyn to go back to the kitchen. But as for Aragorn being tempted? I admit this could be too subtle for me. I’ve always read it as being rather one-sided. If Aragorn’s feelings for Eowyn are really meant to be a part of the story, I’d be interested to know why this seems to be the case.
But if Aragorn is indeed interested, I suppose it might be interesting for Aragorn to suffer a moral qualm - the choice between breaking Arwen’s heart, or Arwen’s immortality, could be very acute here. That, IMHO, is something better addressed in a book than in a film…
Here, read the first full review.

You know, when you’re 46, you shouldn’t wish for time to pass more quickly, but I do. December 18 will never get here!
::rocking back and forth in a fetal position, staring at the calendar::
Check out the official site* for info on Massive (the computer program that handles battles). Helm’s Deep info December!

Was the Time Magazine article a review of the movie? And if so, what did they think?
I don’t want to read it due to spoilers (tho’ hell, I’ve read the book).
No it wasn’t a review though the writer has probably seen the film. The main comment about the quality of the film was that it was more action-packed and a (rather surprising IMO) quote from Vigo Mortensen:
“It’s impressive,” says Two Towers star Viggo Mortensen, “but if you have that much emphasis on special effects, it’s unavoidable that you’ll lose some of the poetry and intimacy of the story.”
Actually if you have read the books I don’t think the spoilers matter much. I,myself, haven’t which is why I found the article rather annoying in that respect. In fact I am quite surprised the editors let the spoilers stay.
So, we’ve got an Eowyn with a waif-like build.
Now, that’s believable.

(spoilers! and you can listen to “Gollum’s Song”)
Brian
I’ve heard it already.
It’s equally amazing as the first one. I don’t know if it’s better, but it is equal at least. I like tracks “Foundations of Stone”, “Forth Eorlingas”, and “The White Rider”.
Thanks for the link! Gollum’s Song = drooooooooooooooool
Odd. I never pictured the Eorlingas as blond. Are they supposed to be?
(Spoilers for TTT, ROTK and the new Harry Potter)
I read somewhere else that Shelob was pushed back to ROTK. It’s a shame – after “Eight-Legged Freaks” and “Chamber of Secrets”, 2003 could have been the Year of Giant Spiders. You can never have too many giant spiders!
You bet they are! I’ll post one of my favorite passages from the book (about 40% of the way into Chapter 2 of Book III), that shows that the Riders of Rohan are blonde. I don’t think it’s a spoiler.
Thanks, Achernar. Yet another little detail of Middle-Earth that I’ve missed, even though I’ve read it umpty-ump times.
What? Are you going from this picture?
Miranda Otto is no more “waif-like” than she is “fat” (you just know that some moron is going to say that) and from photos she looks like a perfectly acceptable Eowyn. (If she’s a waif, then Bernard Hill is a tiny dink, huh? She’s taller than he is!)
A quick web search turned up this description of Eowyn at http://www.planet-tolkien.com/ (people who probably know their Eowyns):
"Because she was tall, slim, and graceful and had golden hair, she was known as the White Lady of Rohan."
Miranda sure fits that description. See the movie, see her in action, then come back and bitch about her if you still feel that way.
Or stay home. Whatever.
