Just had a hankering. I used a packaged mix. Though I followed the directions, it was a little on the runny side. I couldn’t shape it into balls. No matter, I just used a teaspoon to drop it into hot oil. We made sandwiches with pita pockets, lettuce, tomato, kalamata olives, feta cheese, tzatziki, and Sriracha sauce. Oh, yummy.
The leftover batter (hummus?), I dropped onto aluminum foil and put in the freezer. When it’s frozen, I’ll bag them up and keep them in the freezer for next time.
Mmmmmm falafel. I went for a very long walk today and when I got hungry I stopped at Subway. After I left subway I passed a Pita Pit about a block away and thought “damn! I should have gone there for a falafel!”.
Now I know what I’m having for lunch tomorrow!
I make homemade falafel. Dammit, now I need to make another batch.
Doncha hate it when that happens?
Sounds like too much trouble, what with soaking and shelling the beans. The packaged stuff is easy, cheap, and I can make it on a whim.
Trader Joe’s makes an excellent falafel. There is always a couple of bags of it in our freezer.
The hummus and tzatziki… that we make from scratch.
