I’m ignorant of the technical issues, natch, but I know the board software used here can activate the polling option. IMHO would be the logical place to allow same, and unless I’m mistaken I can’t think of any negatives now that the servers have been upgraded.
I have bad news for you. I support the idea of opening polls in IMHO. This means, of course, that it will never happen.
I wonder which will happen first, polls on the SDMB or a search limit of less than five minutes?
Maybe you’re really against them, and saying this to ensure they don’t get activated?

What’s the case for polls? What purpose would they serve?
Well, it allows people who don’t have anything to actually say to weigh in on one opinion or another. Without the rest of us having to skim through a load of “Yeah, me too!” posts. Other than that, not much. Most SDMB residents will just go for the jugular and start dissecting the alternatives as strawmen, false dichtomies and so on and so forth. Even if it was enabled, I can’t say I see more than a week or two of fun in it.
(And I’m not sure if the option to enable polls is a global or local switch. Meaning, I dunno if you can enable it for only one forum. And I can’t see polls in ATMB or the Pit going over well.)
