** Usual medical advice disclaimer, yes I know, SDMB is not a Doctor, etc etc. ** I seen ideas and opinions from non-expert Dopers who use these things every night.
I got onto my first CPAP in 2003. At some point, about…8 years ago, I figured I really should get another sleep study.
My first sleep study had indicated an average of 74 apnic episodes per hour. Yes. That’s right. I averaged more than one cessation per minute. Dude put my printout up on their wall. Along with other similarly wicked high numbers.
I’ve been a Compliant Client ever since. Aside from a few times when there was a power outage where I was sleeping, I have not missed a night. In fact, in 22 years of CPAPing, I’ve gone less than 10 nights without.
So. A second sleep study. They deemed that I was no longer apnic at all. I figured, wahoo- ditch the machine. Problem is, after all of these years, I am completely trapped in needing extra air being shoved down my esophagus.
There are various devices that will open up the back of the throat and assist in a wider airway. ( I’m unwilling to pay cash for a surgical implant device. ) None of these devices seem expensive, and most do the same thing: They attempt a passive jaw thrust to open my airway.
THIS little item, however seems to take a different approach. It seems to hold my tongue outwards past my lips.
Anyone using any oral device to beat snoring?
