I had dial up service for years because I hate our local cable company. Finally had to break down in November and buy their Roadrunner high speed service because every damn page on the web is so graphics intensive.
Been a friggen nightmare from day 1. The installer (an independent contractor) said that the signal strength on my cable route was pretty weak and he would put in a work order to have it checked.
We keep losing the connection. We keep calling them for service and they run through their 1,00 page script to isolate and diagnose the problem as being in your home. One of their service techs was reading from one of their internal test systems and said “Wow, the node you’re on has connected and disconnected 2.5 million times in 30 days, that’s a real problem.”
They seem to be completely unwilling to resolve the problem. I called today to check on the status of the work ticket and they are back to paragraph 7 in the script – send a tech to the home to see what the moronic user screwed up now.
When it works, it’s great. If they would just get off their ass and fix the node (whatever the hell that is) all would be well.
Imagine how I felt last week when I opened by TWC bill and found a balance of almost 600 dollars. I wasn’t even upset or angry…I was more amused than anything. I couldn’t wait to hear what reason there was for a 450% increase in my regular monthly bill (I pay on time every month, never leave a balance, etc.)
Turns out they charged me a fee to switch my cable from my previous apartment (my lease ended December so I moved into this place and received the bill for January) when the installer had specifically told me that would not be the case. There was also a package I had apparently signed up for which expired that month and drove the bill up even more. Short story even shorter, I dropped all the channels for that “package” and used my incredible skills of negotiation to bring the bill down to an amount that resembles what I would normally pay. I know that this has no relevance to what you are talking about, but, at the same time, I feel ya. The place I’m at right now doesn’t allow satellites, so I’m stuck until I have my own place.
Do you have a balcony or patio? If so, your landlord can’t tell you can’t have satellite.
eta: assuming you can point the dish south
As for OP, if you’ve got a data-only package, you can complain to the FCC (follow the menu tree, you’re looking for Form 2000). It will take a few months, but you’ll get a call from the TWC executive office and almost certainly an offer of credit for one to several months of service. In the meantime, continue calling TWC, documenting the details of every call, so you’ve got a paper trail of their ineptitude.
