Time Warner offers to pay DirecTV cancelation charges?

So, I have DirecTV. Should have gotten Time Warner, but didn’t think better of it. Anyway so I went to TWC today to take care of some Internet business. I told him of my situation and said “If you pay for the cancelation fees, I will switch over.”

He said that he’d offer me some kind of 200 dollar rebate to do so. He also gave me the number to contact him. I have to show him my DirecTV contract, obviously. Of course I didn’t save this, but I’m sure I could get a copy sent to me if I called DirecTV and asked them to send me one.

What do you guys think? How likely am I to get screwed if I try this? I can just see myself getting the runaround if I tried it.

I have no idea about Time Warner. I know that if you transfer an account to my brokerage firm from another company, I’ll happily pay any charges you incur from your prior firm.

I used to get those kinds of offers all the time from long distance companies. They would refund the cost of switching on my first bill.
