So, I’m watching True Lies on FX (I seem to watch it whenever it’s aired, fancy that), and I realized how cool the camera gadget they had is. You know, in the beginning of the movie where Al puts a camera in a pack of smokes and Harry views the image from the kitchen, where he sees his daughter stealing from him.
Anyway, I think the image-in-sunglasses idea is awesome, but probably extraordinarly expensive, if the technology even exists yet. A video camera like that one, though, should be available somewhere.
So, how about it? Where can I get a wireless camera (I guess they’d probably be marketed as webcams) small enough to hide in a pack of cigarettes? I tried looking at the horrid X10 site, but I found it hard to navigate, so alternatives to that would be nice.
Search “lipstick camera” Such things are readily available including the in glasses monitor, I think Sony makes a setup like that.
Someone I know setup a POV shooter cam for submachine gun matches using X10 cameras. The camera is mounted on a pair of earmuffs with the electronics stuffed inside. These are IPSC style action shooting matches so the shooter has to run between stations and in rare cases shoot while moving. The idea was to see almost exactly what the shooter sees to the point of seeing the weapon come up as he shoulders it kind of like Doom but it didn’t quite work out that way. The shooter has to move his head when shouldering so half the time the camera was pointing at sky or dirt depending on how it was aimed. We had better luck letting the safety officer wear the camera as he would always be a couple of feet behind the shooter. The cameras worked okay but were prone to dropouts every time they took a shock.
