At work, I use Pubmed on Internet Explorer 8 to find articles. The interface of that website is terrible. With most websites, hitting the backspace key takes you back to the previous page. On Pubmed, however, anytime a new page loads, the focus automatically switches to the search box. Therefore, when I hit the backspace key, all that happens is that the last letter of my search term gets erased. Is there a way to fix this annoying behavior?
After pressing the delete key the first time, you should get an option to “turn off” (underneath the search term box). When you opt to “turn off”, hitting the delete key then takes you back to the previous page.
It doesn’t seem to work. I no longer get the list of autocomplete options, but I still can’t use the backspace key to go back to the previous page.
