Internet Explorer question

Explorer seems to use the Backspace key as a hotkey for Back. Sometimes when I’m using web based e-mail and I misspell a word, IE moves back to the previous page when I hit Backspace, rather than just backspacing over the misspelled word, which is what I’m trying to do. When I hit forward, the whole message is gone, and I have to type it again. I have a Back key built into my keyboard that I never use. I really don’t want Backspace bound to that too. Is there a way to change the bindings for Explorer? I looked through the Internet Options window and couldn’t see anything.

I don’t know about changing the backspace key, but there is a way to keep the text of your message even if you go back to a previous page.

Go to Tools–>Internet Options–>Temporary Internet files (settings) and change the “check for new pages” to a setting other than “Every visit to the page”…that way the text you type in will be stored in a cache, and will be there when you go forward again.

I occassionally run across that problem when I’m on certain forums or email servers. I’ve noticed that when you use the mouse to move the cursor to a position in readiness to backspace that you must wait to make sure the cursor is blinking prior to hitting the backspace key. If you do not wait, the backspace will act as you say, a page back command. However, I’ve found that if I wait to make sure the cursor is blinking then the backspace function works normally. Try it!

See ya’…

We talked about this exact thing about a month back; but Im too lazy to search
